View Full Version : Eagles off-season signings
Seeing as how the re-signing of a player generally shouldn't warrant a thread of its own, we might as well post them here.

Feeley gets Extension
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A.J. Feeley's desire to stay in Philadelphia outweighed his hope to be a starting quarterback.
Feeley and the Eagles agreed on a three-year contract extension Sunday, nearly eliminating the chance that Jeff Garcia will return next season.
"I love Philadelphia. I love the city. I love the organization," Feeley said. "It's where I want to be. It was a no-brainer for me in that regard. There's something to be said for being with a team you love everything about it."
Feeley's new deal runs through 2010. Garcia, who helped the Eagles win the NFC East title and a playoff game after Donovan McNabb was injured, will become a free agent on Friday.

The 29-year-old Feeley was originally drafted by Philadelphia in the fifth round of the 2001 draft. He was 4-1 as a starter in the last five regular-season games in 2002, helping the Eagles clinch the division and first place in the NFC after McNabb and backup Koy Detmer were injured.
Feeley was traded to Miami in 2004 for a second-round draft pick the Eagles used to select wide receiver Reggie Brown. He was traded to San Diego after 1 1/2 seasons with the Dolphins and returned to the Eagles last season as the No. 3 quarterback behind McNabb and Garcia.
"To go to Miami and go through that fiasco was tough and then to go to San Diego and be the odd man out, it was tough," Feeley said. "For me, I look at it like it made me a better player. It made me stronger. It made me a little more dedicated. It made me smarter and it made me a better football player because I learned more offenses."
With the Eagles, Feeley has completed 59.2 percent of his passes for 1,496 yards, 11 TDs and six interceptions while going 4-1.
Overall, he's thrown for 3,389 yards, 22 TDs, 21 interceptions and has completed 55.7 percent of his passes for a passer rating of 71.1 in 20 career games, including 13 starts.
He's far more comfortable playing in the Eagles' version of the West Coast offense than any other

Eagles Re-Sign DE Thomas.
Juqua Thomas made some increased playing time pay off.
The Philadelphia Eagles on Friday signed Thomas, a reserve defensive end, to a five-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Thomas did not figure in the Eagles' defensive end rotation last season until starter Jevon Kearse suffered torn knee ligaments in Week Two. Trent Cole moved in as the starter, but Thomas served as the primary reserve at both end spots and produced 47 tackles and six sacks.
In Philadelphia's two playoff games, Thomas recorded five tackles and 1 1/2 sacks.

Here's Bethel (http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=65912)
Johnson, who played for three seasons in New England and then last year in Minnesota, agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Eagles on Thursday and will provide competition at the wide receiver position as well as at the kickoff return spot.
Looks like Bloom will have some competition at the kickoff return job.
Will James has signed a one year deal (http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/sports/16874533.htm).
IT'S A short-term solution, certainly, but the Eagles addressed one of their biggest offseason needs yesterday, signing cornerback Will James to a 1-year contract.
James, who played in three games for the Eagles last season after signing with them on Oct. 30, had hoped to nail down a longer, more lucrative deal in free agency, but that payday didn't materialize, for a player whose health limited him to five games over the past two seasons. James instead is returning to the Birds as their nickel corner - though he emphasized yesterday that he sees himself as a starter - with hopes of finding free-agent riches next year.
"The numbers weren't right for me out there as far as signing a long-term deal,'' said James, who changed his name from Will Peterson when he signed with the Eagles. As Peterson, he was one of the league's more promising young corners, playing for the Giants, before back troubles surfaced in 2004. "When I saw that, I wanted to get into a situation where I could still improve myself for a whole year, stay healthy for a whole 16 games, and then after this year, test the market.''
Also, WR Kevin Curtis and LB Ryan Fowler met with the Eagles.
Eagles Re-Sign RB Buckhalter To 2-Year Deal (http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=66240)
After entertaining conversations with running backs from other teams, including a visit from a free-agent veteran, the Eagles have decided that their own player best fits the job description. The team re-signed Correll Buckhalter to a two-year deal on Friday.
"The process was kind of different with my knee history, being with the Eagles for the past six years they know my history and what I'm capable of doing," said Buckhalter in a conference call with Philadelphia reporters. "They know I wanted to play there, it was just a matter of getting things right. It was a more comfortable situation for me to come back there at least for two years."
Last year was a strong one for Buckhalter, who made the improbable return from a series of knee injuries to rush for 345 yards on 83 carries, averaging 4.2 yards per carry.
