It makes perfect sense for both teams. The reason Atlanta needs that #2 pick is because they need a WR in the worst way, and there might not be as good of one to come along in a long long time as Calvin Johnson is. The guy is a monster at 6-6, 230+, and can run the 40 in under 4.4. That's insane. Vick's target for the next 5 years, at least. Plus he went to Georgia Tech! Give the Lions the #10 overall, a second-rounder, and maybe another first-rounder next year. Detroit doesn't need another high-priced player to shoulder the stress of playing under Matt Millen. They need to plug a few holes with talented players, but at a better price for the future. Maybe a D-lineman, or perhaps Joe Thomas falls to #10. Or even Brady Quinn? Who knows. What I do know is that this trade is beneficial for both squads and the players those teams will select.
