In my opinion Michaeil Irvin does not belong in the Hall of Fame due to his long sordid history off the field. Would not have voted for him myself.

Lawrence Taylor is in. Ty Cobb is in for baseball. Why shouldn't Irvin?

I do agree with you that it would be nice if the Hall of Fames were filled with positive role models, but they're not. IMO, it wouldn't be right to reject Irvin while people like the two above are in.

I prefer to only look at one field accomplishments. And on the basis, he is a HOFer.

However, I still would have liked to see Monk get in before him

Evaluating players as hall worthy or not has to be about their on field accomplishments, not p;ersonalites. think of someone objecting to a play getting in because he isn't a positive role model because he doesn't belong to the "right" church, for instance.
The only off field area that would effect HOF status would be betting on games.

He who hath not sinned . . .

Irvin was a game breaker. I personally would have liked to have seen Art Monk go first, but I have no issues with irvin making it. Hif performace as a football player warrants it.

Irvin was recently let go by ESPN in case anyone hadn't heard.

I didn't know that. But, I think Art Monk deserved to be inducted before Irvin. There's always next year!

Monk was the last cut, I understand. I'm not sure who's eligible for the first time next year, but I know Jerry Rice won't be. He stands a good chance of getting in if Rice, Cris Carter and Tim Brown are not on the ballot.
So Irvin got let go? I'm not a fan of his, but he was a great player. I will not miss him when I tune into ESPN. I'm sure Fox is chomping at the bit to bring him in for their Best Damned Sports Show.

As much as I disliked Irvin when he was with the Cowboys, I have to admit that he was a huge part of a great team. He's called the "Playmaker" for a reason. Sure, he got much milage from pushing the DB's out of his way ;) but the bottomline was he made plays. And a lot of them. He deserves his induction.

For that matter he deserved to be let go by ESPN as he's a big blowhard too!:D

The HOF is about what you did on the field, not off. And with that, Micheal Irvin should be in the HOF.

I agree with that too. Art Monk was great! He was the first player to pass the greatest WR in the history of the game, Steve Largent, so he should be in.

Largent might have been the greatest when Monk passed him, but I would take Jerry Rice over him. There might be a couple of others who I'd take before Largent. Paul Warfield, maybe, or even Marvin Harrison or Cris Carter. If Terrell Owens or Randy Moss had taken their careers seriously throughout, I may take them, too. He's top five, at least, though. Maybe top three.

This is my first post so here it goes.As for Irvin for being in,no.Art Monk was Jerry Rice before Rice got into the league, meaning that it was pretty much Monk and everyone else after the fact.Did Irvin win 3 titles, yes he did but with a team around him.Charles Mann should be in the hall if this is the case, meaning if you are judged by titles,Mann has just as many, plus were are the Hogs or for that matter any of the Doplhins offensive line.Irvin a first timer and in already on that part is a joke.
