Bowl Games

Anyone know how the timetable for Bowl Games is established? I always thought it was the more prestigious bowls with higher ranked teams that play on or after New Year's Day, building up to the Championship Game.

I'm trying to figure out how the Western Michigan - Cincinnati game is the third to last bowl, or the Ohio - Southern Miss is the second to last Bowl. Neither game rings of national interest
