What a shock, there will be no Lions in Hawaii (at least not for the game) when the Pro-Bowl is played this season. Even though WR Roy Williams as been near the top of the receiving yardage leaders all season long, he was snubbed for his first selection.

Freep.com:
"The four receivers who beat out Williams in NFC balloting were starters Torry Holt of St. Louis and Steve Smith of Carolina. Anquan Boldin of Arizona and Donald Driver of Green Bay were the reserves."

So what has it been, four, five years since they had a player make it? I think Dre Bly and Shaun Rogers have been alternate selections the last couple seasons, but I'm only guessing.

I voted for Roy!! I guess no one else thought he deserved a spot, that's why I think All-Star Game voting is only a popularity contest. Players aren't rewarded for good seasons anymore.

Well, the coaches and players didn't. I think the fans did vote him a spot.
And, to correct myself, Shaun Rogers did play in last year's game.

I wonder if it was Roy's lack of touchdowns that lost him his Pro-Bowl bid, or his lackluster team, or his inability to keep his yapper shut for two weeks in a row? Although Green Bays' Al Harris tore Roy a new one, he can heap yardage up upon most any team, and I'm sure he's regarded around the league as one tough dude to try and defend. Maybe Kitna and Martz will feel bad about Roy's snubbing and give the guy more looks in the end zone when they're down there.

The really sad thing about this thread is that we can only talk about it regarding Roy Williams. There's nobody else that deserved this honor, except perhaps rookie Ernie Sims.

Before the season started, the media would keep asking WR Roy Williams how he thought his upcoming season would go. Williams kept his answer short-and-sweet, and the same every time: "Tori Holt."

After being selected as a Pro-Bowl alternate, Williams will get his chance to play in the Hawaiian All-Star game because of: Tori Holt. Holt dropped out, clearing a spot for our big-mouthed, stone-handed, extremely talented Roy Williams. Congrats, Roy. You and Mike Furrey were the only two bright spots all season long, and those flappin' lips you have added a little spice to an otherwise dismal (and annual) losing season.
