Lamar Hunt has died after a long bout with bladder cancer, he was 74 years old.

Among his many achievements in the world of sports: founder of the Kansas City Chiefs, driving force and most prominant figure of the former AFL, cofounder of the NBA's Chicago Bulls, cofounder of Major League Soccer and owner/former owner of the FC Dallas, Kansas City Wizards, Columbus Crew teams, member of the NFL, USA Soccer, and Pro Tennis Hall of Fames.

His most unknown yet widest reaching achievement was coining the phrase "Super Bowl" which became the new nickname for the AFL/NFL World Championship Game...

Kansas City and all of sports will miss him.

As I said on Baseball Fever when someone mentioned his passing, Hunt was an owner who was driven to improve more than just his own interests. He was a true sports giant and will be deeply missed.

I had heard about him coining of the Super Bowl but I was unaware of his other achievements. What a great man. He will be missed.
