I'm wondering and highly doubt if there have ever been this many 1 vs 2s in a single season. Ohio St. is on the verge of doing this.
#1 Ohio St. vs. #2 Texas
#1 Ohio St. vs. #2 Michigan
#1 Ohio St. vs. Possible #2 USC.
Also, if there is a list of #1s vs #2s. I would like to have it.

There have been several seasons when there were two such games, but I believe it has happened only once in the course of a regular season (1945). It has never happened three times in a season. What I find most remarkable is that No. 1 did not play No. 2 for 15 straight seasons (1947-1961). No. 1 leads the series 24-11-2, which may indicate that the poll actually has some predictive value.
I hope this is an accurate list, though I have some doubts because they have the incorrect score of the 1966 Notre Dame - Michigan State game.

I believe the ND-MSU score is correct. Thanks for the list. I find it funny that Army and Navy met back to back years as #1 and #2. #2 had a 4 game win streak between '86 and '88.

Notre Dame and Michigan State played to a ten/ten tie that year.

Yeppers, ND played for the tie because they knew they would still get the National Championship with it. BTW, that MSU defense was anchored by Bubba Smith, the first player drafted #1 in the combined NFL-AFL draft (1967)

I remember that game well. Stabler led us (Alabama) to an undefeated season, but we were denied a third straight national championship because of Mr. Wallace. Stabler was something special that year. I enjoyed that season as much as any except for 61. I've just been to a Joe Namath book signing and have been thinking about the great quarterbacks that I grew up watching at Alabama in the early to mid sixties. Trammel, Namath, Sloan, and Stabler. Good memories. I've been racking my brain and the name Bubba Smith sounds familiar, but I can't place him. Where did he end up playing in the NFL?

Bubba was drafted by Baltimore, and played with the Colts for a few yrs, then went to Oakland for 3, and finished out his career in Houston in the mid 70s. He was one of the fiercest DEs in college, at MSU they had a slogan for him "Kill Bubba Kill". You may also recognize him as Hightower from the POlice Academy movies, and from being in the always funny "taste great, less filling" commercials from the early and mid 80s.
