It's now official. Jay Cutler will start on sunday night against Seattle. Altough contrary to what was said on ESPN, I don't believe Mike Shanahan confirmed that Cutler will start until the end of the season no matter what happens. Altough I would be surprised to see Plummer back in this year, unless Cutler is absolutely horrible.

The Broncos now join Arizona, Tenessee and Tampa Bay who all have rookie starting quarterbacks at this point in the season. Only difference is, those 3 teams are playing for fun. The Broncos are playing for a playoff spot.

In a related story, the Broncos are gonna miss the playoffs.

No matter what happens, Cutler will start at least the next two games, no matter how poorly he performs. Shanahan will not put Plummer back in after benching him for one game.

So lets see: Can the Broncos defeat Seattle with a rookie making his first NFL start on sunday in prime time: I don't believe they will.

Can the Broncos march into San Diego and defeat the Chargers in two weeks with a QB making his first NFL road start? That seems highly unlikely.

So Denver will find itself 7-6 with 3 weeks to go in the season, and absolutely no margin for error. The Arizona game looks like a gimme, but there's no gimme on the road for the Broncos. The Bengals will be a challenge and the 49ers have been playing well for the last month. The team will be in too much of a whole after the next two games, I don't believe they will make the playoffs. Hope I'm wrong, but that don't happen often.

BTW, Cutler's body language was horrible during his press conference. Looked like, you know the 5 year old in the arms of his parents, who's being asked if he's happy to see Santa by a desperate reporter while they wait for the parade to go by? That's what he looked like.
