Well, this will start out as a who should go which will then go on to be a who will win to a review of the game to complaints about how we need a playoff system.

Anyways, Ohio St. is going. Of course, I want Boise St. in as the only other unbeaten.

I honestly believe USC has the best chance.

TOP 5 TEAMS BESIDE OSU.
#2 Michigan will only get in with a USC loss
#3 USC will get in with wins over ND and UCLA
#4 Florida possibly by winning out and a USC loss
#5 Arkansas will not get in due to not enough respect from pollsters
#6 Notre Dame will not get in due to loss against Michigan proving Mich to be a better team

Arkansas most likely won't get in, and it's not due to no respect. It's due to a 50-14 drubbing against USC. Nothing else.

With USC beating Notre Dame, and LSU beating Arkansas, it's down to USC, Michigan, and Florida for the right to lose to OSU. Florida won't get it, due to all the cupcakes in their non-conference schedule. Michigan has to pray for UCLA to upset USC, which probably won't happen. Florida also needs the same thing, but I think all the pollsters will vote Michigan ahead of Florida, even with a USC loss. USC has definitely emerged as a solid frontrunner, due to their three (maybe four) wins over teams that were in the Top 10 at some point, (Notre Dame, Arkansas, Cal... maybe someone else).

Key Games (#2 USC)
Defeated #19 Nebraska
Defeated #21 Oregon
Defeated #17 California
Defeated #6 Notre Dame

Key Games (#3 Michigan)
Defeated #2 Notre Dame (Away)
Lost to #1 Ohio State (Away)

Key Games (#4 Florida)
Defeated #13 Tennessee (Away)
Defeated #9 LSU
Lost to #11 Auburn (Away)
Face #8 Arkansas

USC has definitly defeated more quality opponents.

Add that to their defeat of Arkansas, who rose up to #5, and you've got the second-best team in the country.

There are several good reasons why Michigan doesn't deserve to be in the BCS Title Game: Indiana(5-7), Ball State(5-7), Vanderbilt(4-8), Minnesota(6-6), Iowa(6-6), Northwestern(4-8), Michigan State(4-8).
Seven games against teams .500 or below.

On the flip side, USC had to beat Stanford(1-10), UCLA(6-6 after facing USC), Arizona(6-6), Washington(6-6), Washington St.(5-7).

Despite their loss to 7-5 Oregon St. they still played much better teams and if you add in the fact that they beat eventual #4 Arkansas(my opinion here) in Arkansas by a huge margin they deserve that slot against OSU.

Also, Florida, who think they should be in:

Vanderbilt
Western Carolina
Alabama
UCF
Florida State
Alabama
Southern Miss

Granted, they beat LSU and Tennessee, and possibly Arkansas, but...

Lol, brady, you threw Bama in there twice :p

You can't really count Vandy and Bama against Florida, as they are SEC conference games, and the Gators do not control what conference foes they face. I would hesitate to through FSU in there as well, they are a perennial powerhouse, and just happened to hiccup this year.

The rest of non conference games are patsies though.

I personally would prefer to see Florida vs Ohio State, if Florida wins SEC Championship. If they end up losing it, and USC wins out, then obviously USC deserves the game. If they both win out, things are going to get ugly. In my mind, both deserve a shot at Ohio State at that point. Don't ya just love this stuff?

I don't think anyone deserves to face Ohio St except for Boise St.(UNDEFEATEDS ONLY) Just give OSU the National Championship.

That is so logical it wouldn't work.

You know what would be fun. A Double-Round Robin Double Elimination. Simply: Every team in the NCAA plays each other home and away. Then, there is a tournament based on the records during the round robin. Then, you can have one loss in the tournament before getting eliminated. FOOTBALL ALL YEAR LONG.

So much for classes.

So much for classes.

College athletes ain't supposed to attend classes, college sports is about preparing for the pros and not learning... att least that's the general assumption by boosters, administration officials, coaches, players etc.

I have a much more logical suggestion: Do it the same way as basketball. Have each team play about 35 regular-season games, followed by a conference tournament, and then have a selection committee pick Air Force over Maryl- I mean, have a selection committee pick 65 teams that did pretty well, and put them in a single-elimination tournament. More money for the NCAA!

But that wouldn't last all year. There would be football 365 days a year.

I've always liked those ads they show during football games where they show an athlete from a "lesser" sport like gymnastics or track talk about what their major is. And I then think of guys like OSU's Andy Katzenmoyer and Reggie Germany with his John Blutowski GPA, who then got drafted by the Eagles, I believe.

If the teams are playing 35 regular season games, it won't be too much less than that.
Oh, the training bills!

Looks like a rematch. I'll add a poll as soon as it is official.

Florida beat Arkansas, so they might get a chance at the National Championship. This will be tough to decide.

I have a hard time letting a team that didn't even win its own conference play for the National Championship when there is another team just as qualified that did win theirs. I am hoping Florida gets the nod, but they will probably get hosed. If they win their bowl game and if Michigan beat OSU, then who is the National Champion? Yep, system is still screwed up, lol.

Since USC is out, I now want Florida to go. They deserve it. Like Michigan, their only loss was to a team that peaked in the top 2, and they had more quality wins.

I agree, Florida should get the title-game nod over Michigan. But with U-of-M being my fave team, I'd love to see a rematch. It's not like they got blown out @ Ohio State. It was a close game, and the #1 team had homefield advantage. I'd love to watch that game again in a neutral location. Too bad U-of-M and Florida couldn't have a "semifinal" game to see who gets to play OSU.

12-03-2006, 10:23 AM
I don't give a darn about the rematch, no team should go to the national championship game if they haven't even won their conference title.

Florida has earned the right to play for the national championship, they are more deserving than Michigan. Michigan should get a decent BCS game but they do not belong in the national championship game.

Now it's official: Florida gets a shot at Ohio State for the National Championship. It was a fair decision, and I'm not a bit disturbed by it. My Michigan squad goes to the Rose Bowl to face USC in a rematch of the 2003 contest. Congrats, Gators.

Michigan-USC in the Rose bowl......somehow all seems right in the world again when I hear that. I miss the old Big 10 vs Pac 10 Rose Bowls.

Ohio State and Florida in the national championship. I think Florida will win, strong defense, experienced quarterback, and talented freshman. Sounds a lot like Michigan!
