Seattle traded five-time Pro Bowl linebacker Julian Peterson to the Detroit Lions for defensive tackle Cory Redding and the Lions' fifth round draft pick in 2009.

This is the second addition at DT the Hawks have made this season. On March 2, the team signed a multi-year free agent contract with DT Colin Cole, snatching him away from Green Bay.

Redding has been playing DT for two year, prior to that he was a defensive end. He is an extremely talented player and teamed with Cole, I think we can put to bed the rumors that the Hawks will draft DT B.J. Raji, Boston College, with the fourth overall pick in the 2009 draft.

In terms of money, Redding signed a seven-year, $47.8 million contract in 2007 -- after which he was moved from DE to DT. Peterson signed a seven-year, $54 million contract in 2006.

If quarterback Matthew Stafford, Georgia, is still on the board at pick four, and that's remotely possible, don't expect Jim Mora Jr. to pass up on a potential franchise QB he can groom for several seasons behind Matt Hasselback. This could work out extremely well, depending on who the Lions draft and the response by St. Louis, which is sort of in need of a new QB too.

At the very least this means the Hawks will land either a potential franchise QB in the draft or possible offensive tackle Jason Smith, Baylor, or OT Eugene Monroe, Virginia, to eventually take over the left tackle spot from a rapidly aging Walter Jones.

Another possibility in this is the Hawks trading out of the four spot for a couple later first round picks from a team that might be looking to add an impact player, i.e. Philadelphia. This would allow Seattle to stockpile talent and payout a whole lot less to its draft selections.

What does the 12th man think of trading a fan favorite like Peterson?

I voted "No" but I don't really think he was the heart of the defense. Maybe you could say that about Lofa Tatupu. But I didn't want to lose Peterson.

The Seattle Seahawks have absolutely no exuse for playing this poorly. Is it time for Matt Hasselbeck to go? I don't know.

The defense has lost some big pieces to injury -- but so has just about every other NFL team.

The offense is seeing running back Justin Forsett establish himself as a star running back but just about anyone would look great compared to Julius Jones!

If Mike Holmgren does return to the Seahawks at GM and president of football operations, there has to be a realization that the days of Walter Jones anchoring the left side of the offensive line are over! And is it a coincidence that the Seahawk's running game declined when the team declined to re-sign left guard Steve Hutchinson -- now opening lanes for AD -- perhaps the best running back in the game.

The OL has to be top priority, if the team decides Hasselbeck is returning as a starter for 2010.

For today, San Francisco will welcome Seattle to another losing record, even if the 49ers are pathetic on the road this season.

I see the O-line as a big problem. The thing with Steve Hutchinson was a big train wreck & misunderstanding. The Seahawks did not want to lose him and were planning on resigning him but then the Vikings swooped in with their dirty pool.
