With his 535th reception this past week Troy Brown has moved ahead of Stanley Morgan as the all-time leading receiver in Patriots history.
Brown has only been the leader in receptions twice during his career('01 and '02 only) but has stayed with the team long enough to break the record. It also helps that the team has finished or will finish .500 or above 11 of the 14 years he has been in the league(below .500 in '93, '95, '00).

Oh ya, I rememebr Morgan, he was faaaaaast. I didn't realize he was the all time Pats reception leader though. He did put together some really good seasons as I recall.

Probably thought it was his teammate Irving Fryer eh, ;)
In his 13 years he was the leading receiver nine of those years.

Lol, actually, I was thinking Fryer for some reason :p

He did good but Morgan finished ahead of him every year they played together except 1989, and even then it was by just one catch.
Fryar only finished as the leading receiver with New England three years, all of which were after Morgan left the team. Fryar only had 363 receptions with New England, his best stuff came later.
Morgan is one of those unsung heros from the forgotten years, along with Steve Grogan and John Hannah. His accomplishments are overshaddowed by the heck that came after he retired and the great teams that came about between the mid 90s to today.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have more catches when playing on a sub-.500 team?

That's not quite true. It depends on a bunch of reasons: on the offensive system, what kind of plays you are running, how often you run them, who is throwing, how good are they at throwing, how good the offensive line is, how good the defenses are.
It's possible to have a good year on a winning team and have a bad year on a losing team.

Well, yes, but if the team has a decent passing game, and they lose a lot, then they'll pass a lot more than a team that wins a lot, because teams run when they're ahead, and pass when they're behind. So there would generally be more passes thrown on a bad team than a good team.

Flawed logic.

Another record was set yesterday by the Pats: Vinny Testaverde threw a TD pass for the 20th consecutive season.
