I was looking for a list of 8-8 teams that made the playoffs and ran across this:

With Cowboys fans worldwide panicking about the teams slipping playoff chances, I decided to break down some numbers and see which teams with that records at the half-way point make the playoffs. I broke NFL teams into three midseason categories: those with a 6-2 record or better, teams with a 5-3 or 4-4 record (where Dallas will be at midseason), and teams that were 3-5 or worse. . . .

He has breakdowns going back to 1998. There have been 11 occasions over the past 10 years when a team started 6-2 and then flamed out. The Redskins probably will be added to the list this season.

The one team that stands out to me is last year's Lions. 6-2 and have won 1 game since.
