Have NFL teams ever tried to recruit rugby players?

I am just curious. Has there ever been a concerted efforst to recruit rugby players from rugby playing nations to play NFL football? I remember when the legendary Greeco-Roman wrestler Alexander Karelin was in his priem there was talk that the Dallas Cowboys were itnerested in him. If NFL teams would consider a wrestler, why not rubgy players? I would think rugby players would have developed skills that can be used on the football field.

I don't know about the NFL recruiting rugby players, but in baseball the Pittsburgh Pirates are apparently now recruiting villagers from rural India who can throw a javelin hard to be on their pitching staff.
