Not to take ANYTHING away from McFadden, but I am jaded. I grew up watching and thinking the guy below was the next Lawrence Taylor.

College Football News #30 greatest player in history, a tackle that was beyond devastating, a school record 22 tackles against my home town Hurricanes in 1986, two-time Butkus Award winner, two-time All American, a slew of other records, and as everybody now knows - an NFL flop, so bad that Sports Illustrated even featured him recently in an article about Top Draft Busts of the Modern Era (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/2005/04/15/draft.busts/content.1.html)...

hope that doesnt happen to macfadden in the pros, but right now u will here his name alot around the NCAA football world. he was awesome as a freshman and will be even better as a sophmore. this kid is unfreakin believable to watch. plus finally getting an offinsive coordinator and a QB, will take the defenses attention off of him a little. we can be more diverse, which will spread the D out for him to use his awesome speed. i look for him to break a few team records this year and maybe some league records.

He has a high school offensive coordinator, I don't know how much that is going to help him. I do think though that Arkansas is a veteran team this year mostly and that they will have an impressive season, but their record may not exactly show it. I think a third place SEC West finish , and a bowl appearance will be a good turnaround for them though. 2 straight losing seasons.

he is from highschool, but he is awesome he knows the game, and every highschool team he coached won state title every year. he coached a highschool team from a small town in arkansas and at one time they were ranked either 1rst or 2nd in the NATION. i think gus will benifit the hogs. who knows might be like steve spurrier, who was awesome in college and flopped in the NFL. i hope not and i only think positive. i think gus will benifit the offense. i dont think we will be best team around, but i dont think we will have a losing season. it wouldnt suprise me if we break the top 10 for a short spell this year. and we will only get better in the years to come.

The OC brought his quarterback with him too didn't he?

and a reciever and one other players. his QB was at one time rated best in the nation, and he never left the top 10. he and the reciever had several D 1 offers. they may not be superstars yet, but in the years to come they will be recognized.

Houston Nutt has built himself quite a program up there, with McFadden and Robert Johnson at QB they have a pretty solid nucleus. I think Mitch Mustain, the aforementioned QB the new Offensive Coordinator brought, should get the starting job in 1 year.

i agree with everything u have except robert johnson. i think he sucked. we didnt start playing good untill houston finally started casey dick. unless johnson has improved quite a bit, either casey dick or mustain will get then job, and it will probably be casey dick. as we can tell from the past, houston has no problem using 2 QB's regularly, so i think we will see dick, mustain, and even a little johnson for some options or bootlegs. i have questioned some of the decisions nutt has made in the past but all in all he has done alright.

Johnson does give the Hogs an option as a mobile quarteback but is Mustain ready?

i dunno if he is ready or not. yet to be seen. some kids tear it up as true freshmen, who knows. i think casey dick will get most of the time unless johnson improved. either way we will be better then last year. our defense wll be strong, and if you remember last year, most of the conference games we lost were by a few points. we almost beat LSU, a great team, georgia, a great team, and so many others. hopefully this year we can get over the hump and finish in the long run. i just cant wait until the next few years, i may be way off base, but i think mcfaddin we be in race for the heisman.

Arkansas is by no means a beautiful state, but the football culture down there is really interesting. I love the tie on hog noses. I don't follow them real closely but loved the team a couple years ago with Matt Jones as QB and that really good running back (wore #4 but forget his name.) Will always remember the 71-63 game against Kentucky.
Great band down there too.

Arkansas is a very beautiful state. u must have visited the flatlands on the east part of the state. or the southern swamplands. the northwest part of the state is beautiful. the central part is nice too with hotsprings and several other beautiful places. number 4 might be cedric cobbs or madre hill. im not sure.

So what do you think fumble? 1 more year, then he bolts for the NFL? I haven't seen much of him, but I have seen is pretty impressive. Nice pics btw.

Buzz around town is one more year and he might be out.
But in that year, he could see a legitimate national championship run, as well as the heisman.
We have a great group of young players that will be back for next season. I knew we would be good, but I did not expect to be 9-1 after 10 games. But when you watch this kid play, he just brings electricity to this offense.
look at his game log:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/player/gamelog?playerId=170928
Things to think about, the yards in 2 of the games were low because of the lopsided scores.
Season opener he was hurt, and actually was sneaking into the game for more plays than the coaches wanted to use him.
4 games with 140+ rushing.
3 games with 180+ rushing.
1 game with 200+ rushing.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) -Four months ago, the Heisman Trophy was the furthest thing from Darren McFadden's mind.
The season was still a month away - if he was lucky, that is. McFadden had dislocated his toe in a fight outside a Little Rock club, and he wasn't sure when he'd be back on the field.
"There was a point I got so down on myself I didn't know if I would be able to play because of the different things people were telling me," the Arkansas running back said this week. "So going into the season I didn't know what to expect. I didn't think any of the things I have been doing were possible and I'm just really thankful."
McFadden returned quickly, and his preseason mistake was quickly forgotten around Arkansas, where he's led the No. 12 Razorbacks to their best season in years. Now, McFadden is a Heisman finalist, another highlight in a remarkable season for both him and his teammates.
He'll join Ohio State quarterback Troy Smith and Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn in New York on Saturday for the trophy presentation.
McFadden has rushed for a school-record 1,558 yards this season, but the numbers don't tell the whole story.
"You kind of get numb to it. You expect him to make unbelievable plays," Arkansas offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn said. "But each week there's one play that you just go, 'That's not right."'
McFadden is strong enough to grind out extra yards after contact, but it's his breakaway speed that has earned the most attention. Once he's in the open field, he becomes a nightmare for defensive backs, who are often helpless to catch him no matter how good their angles.
And over the last few weeks, the nation has learned something truly terrifying: McFadden, an occasional quarterback in high school, can throw. The Razorbacks have used him at quarterback a bit - where he can either run, pass or hand off to Felix Jones, Arkansas' other 1,000-yard back.
McFadden has thrown three touchdowns in eight pass attempts this season. He's also scored on a 70-yard screen pass and a 92-yard kickoff return.
"Just about every game he amazes everybody with something that he pulls," quarterback Casey Dick said. "Sometimes we ask him to throw the ball, he can throw it. He can run it, make people miss. He's just a complete back that can do everything."
McFadden grew up watching the Razorbacks and went to high school in the Little Rock area. He made an immediate impact at Arkansas in 2005, rushing for 1,113 yards and earning Southeastern Conference freshman of the year honors.
His high hopes coming into this season were momentarily derailed when he injured his toe in the wee hours one July morning.
"I knew I was hurting myself and hurting my teammates by not being able to practice and prepare with them," McFadden said. "It was just real tough for me."
But McFadden has always been able to fight through pain - he played the entire 2005 season with a small cartilage tear in his knee. He was back for this year's opener, a 50-14 loss to Southern California.
Arkansas (10-3) won 10 straight after that loss, and the Razorbacks won seven SEC games for the first time since joining the league before the 1992 season. Arkansas will face No. 6 Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on New Year's Day.
Coaches insisted McFadden's preseason incident was out of character - and he's backed up those claims ever since. Quick to credit his offensive line, McFadden sounds relieved about his recovery from that summer injury and grateful for his increasing recognition.
The only hint of controversy lately has involved his touchdown celebrations - earlier this season, McFadden would raise his arms and flex immediately after crossing the goal line. Officials frowned upon that, and coach Houston Nutt told McFadden to cut it out. It hasn't been an issue since.
McFadden isn't favored to win the Heisman - no sophomore ever has. But the exposure this year should make him a front-runner heading into 2007. And nobody, least of all his coach, seems to begrudge him all this attention.
"He doesn't say that much about it, and of course he's so unselfish and he gives all the credit to his offensive line, tight ends, fullbacks, those guys," Nutt said. "If anything, it's brought our team closer together.
"First time in a long time someone is talking about a Heisman Trophy candidate from the University of Arkansas."

Who we talking about. Still don't recognize the name. Yea, to be honest, I don't watch a lot of ACC and SEC football. Mainly, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, and a random Pac-10 (Need to be called the Big 10 II or the Big 10 could be called the Big 11).

What? you follow college football, but you never heard about Darren McFadden?
McFadden will be playing against a Big 10 team on New Year's Day... perhaps you will see him play then?
I hope so, after that game come back and let's talk more...
Don't follow SEC football??? WHA??? best football conference in the nation... hands down...
Show me another conference that had as many teams in the top 5 in the polls as the SEC this year?

I have to agree with fumble. SEC may be the best NCAA Football conference. I grew up watching Big East and Big 10 myself, being from NY. But since being down here in Carolina, I have paid more attention to the SEC. I still don't like the Atlantic Chump Conference though :p

Well, I usually only watch ABC, FSN, and ESPN. There are hardly any SEC and ACC teams on there. I don't watch CBS (SEC) and the CW (ACC).
But I have heard of Darren McFadden, I was just messing with your head there Fumble.

The ACC is the most competitive conference in both football and basketball.
No, I didn't say best. Though it is the best basketball conference. ;) But that's a different debate.
