This year I've had the privilege to attend several D I-AA games in the Ivy League, at some of the really old college football stadiums.

Has anyone else been to Franklin Field, Harvard Stadium (Soldiers Field I think is it's actual name), the Yale Bowl, or who attended a game at Palmer Stadium at Princeton before it came down in '94?

For what it's worth to you(I know you want actual experiences inside) but I've been by Harvard Stadium many times. It's much more impressive inside than outside, you can see glimpses of the stadium through the outer collumns but it's much nicer inside than it appears...compared to Alumni Stadium(Boston College), Nickerson Field(formerly Boston University), and Parsons Field(Northeaster University) it is the best college football stadium in the Boston area and probably in all of New England(sorry Yale Bowl!)

Regarding it's name...it's Harvard Stadium and not Soldiers Field, Soldiers Field is the university's softball field near the stadium.

My friend played at union college and said when they played at the yale bowl, it was such a neat experience. He loved how it echoed during warm ups.

I have attended games at the following Ivy league fields.

Harvard Stadium
Yale Bowl
Franklin Field (Penn)
Palmer Stadium (Princeton)
Princeton Stadium (replaced Palmer)

Wein Stadium (Columbia)
Memorial Field (Dartmouth)
Brown Stadium
Schoelkopf Field (Cornell)

As for the name of Harvard's arena, I think Harvard Stadium is the structure, and Soldier's field is the large section of land on which the stadium (and the hockey arena and basketball pavillion) sit.

Welcome, tbetzag.

What have your impressions been of these stadiums? Do they give the appearance of long-standing tradition?

I would have to say that some of them do. I think Harvard Stadium and Franklin Field both emulate tradition (even though both have artificial turf.)

The Yale bowl seems to be falling into it's foundation. It got a facelift in the mid-90's for the Special Olympics (held in New Haven, it was the main venue.)

Princeton Stadium is very modern, and quite unlike any other park I had been to.

Brown, Dartmouth, and Columbia almost don't seem like stadiums - they have a grandstand and press box on the home sideline, and a small number of bleachers on the visitors sidelines. There is no stadium if I recall - just two very unequal structures.

Columbia's Wien Stadium was built in 1987, so not much long standing tradition there.

Cornell's park seemed nice - almost a mix of an old stadium, but with a modern press box and other amenities.
