I think the Bears should stick with Orton. He is the one that lead the Bears to a division title.

Orton was the one barely moving the ball while the defense and Thomas Jones led them to a division title. He's right where he should be as the No. 3 QB.

I think Orton should start, despite their run game being their strong point. He showed leadership even though he was a rookie. Rex Grossman is fragile and I'm not sure he can hold up.

Kyle Orton was clutch in college, while Rex Grossman played great under Spurrier and should have won the heisman as a sophmore before having an average season under Zook and fleeing into the draft. Who is their third QB?

Orton. Brian Griese is the #2.

Wait, you mean Griese is behind Rex Grossman? That is ludicrous, Griese played for another team with a great defense last year that played in many close games. He also has much more expierence than Grossman and Orton combined. Besides, Rex has yet to prove himself because he always gets hurt.

Currently, but I believe Griese looked better than Grossman during offseason workouts so that could change.

I have no problem with Grossman being listed ahead of Griese at the moment. The team should see how he holds up against No. 1 defenses during the preseason since his upside is higher. Besides, Griese is 31 and coming off a torn ACL/MCL. I would hold off naming Griese the starter until the contact starts to make sure he is fully recovered.

I just don't like Grossman as a pro quarterback because he has never made it through a season, and Spurrier's Gators quarterbacks do not have a great NFL track record. The 4 good QBs who played for Spurrier in the 90s (Shane Matthews, Danny Wuerrfel, Doug Johnson, Jesse Palmer) are nowhere to be seen in the NFL now. Palmer did some reality show, Johnson played for the Falcons the year Vick was hurt, and the other 2 failed to do anything when Spurrier gave them a chance on the Redskins.

Maybe Grossman can resist the trend, but I don't see that happening because he is not as talented as the other 4 in my opinion.

Orton. Seems like a much more polished player, much more capable of leading Chicago to the playoffs. Plus, as a completely worthless and unrelated note, a lot of Purdue fans are also in the Colts/Bears zone, so playing Orton, a Purdue grad, should attract some fans.

Brian Griese should begin the season as the starter at QB and Thomas Jones should begin the season as the starter at RB. If by mid-season the Bears are out of it then switch to Grossman and Benson and at least see what, if anything, there is on the roster for the future.

But the idea of Kyle Orton starting the regular season is ludacris. The guy had a 59.7 QB Rating last year! He completed only 51.6% of his passes in a vastly oversimplified offense. His pathetic 5.08 YPA ranks right at the bottom of the NFL. This guy shouldn't even be starting in the NFL Europe!

Like the rapper?? :laugh Anyway the idea of starting Kyle Orton might be ludicrous, but he GOT THE BEARS TO THE PLAYOFFS!!! It probably wasn't pretty but the only thing that matters is playoff appearances and championships. We'll see who Lovie Smith goes with. What else do you expect? He was a 4th round pick and a very solid college QB statistically, usually those guys don't transfer well into the NFL.

Kyle Orton is a walking disaster zone. He didn't get the Bears to the playoffs. Thomas Jones' 1,300 rushing yards and the Bears relentless defense did that.

Crediting Kyle Orton with getting the Bears to the playoffs in 2005 is like crediting Trent Dilfer with winning the 2000 Superbowl. I think it was Jamal Lewis' 1,364 rushing yards and Baltimore's record smashing defense that accomplished that.

He just came along for the ride.

Did Jamal Lewis push the Ravens down the field with his leadership? Did Jamal Lewis throw a touchdown to Brandon Stokley to start the scoring? I don't think so! Anyways, Jamal Lewis nor Trent Dilfer won the Super Bowl, the Ravens "D" did.

Griese and Grossman will both get hurt, and Orton will finish the season. For the start of the season, I say Grossman is the starter. But Orton can sure hand the ball off well...

Why can't he get any respect??

Because his play is awful. His arm is awful. He can't make reads. He's not exactly mobile. I'd rather have Marcus Vick starting than Kyle Orton. But Vick is buried in Miami -- maybe he'll get released or somebody will trade for him.

Orton deserves a ton of credit for the Bears turnaround season last year. Sure, he didn't put up great numbers, but to come in as a rookie and lead your team to a bunch of victories is very hard to accomplish in the NFL. I know, Thomas Jones and the defense are spectacular, but it wouldn't be fair to say that Kyle Orton had zero effect on the Bears division title. He pulled his weight until Grossman was healthy.

That said, I agree with those that said Grossman deserves to start for the Bears, at least for now. He knows Lovie Smith's offensive system, and he has an accurate arm. His durability is the biggest issue here. I think Smith knew he couldn't risk the possibility of having to play Orton for extensive periods of time again this season, so the signing of Greise was a good one. Orton actually reminds me alot of Drew Brees, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him develop into one of the better QB's in the league in a few years. The game experience he had last season will do wonders for his future.

So would you be please if Matt Millen pulled off a trade for Kyle Orton and installed him as the Lions new starting QB?

Because I'm relatively sure that would cement an 0 & 16 season for the Lions -- then with the top pick in the draft Millen could select another WR -- maybe Dwayne Jarrett. The last USC WR Millen took in the first round turned out so well, why not take another one?
