He is lucky that's all he got, I would have given him much more than that. He better watch his back next time he plays the Cowboys.

It's a record length suspension for an incident that occurred on the field and I still think he was lucky to only get that...Classless display on the part of Albert Haynesworth. My advice for him would be fake an injury next time the Titans are scheduled to play the Cowboys.

I think his helmet was on a little too tight when he did that.

That stomp was unprofessional and he should have gotten a longer suspension. The crazy thing about this is he reacted like he didn't do a thing! He threw a temper tantrum like a three year old. Jeff Fisher did the right thing by getting on his case.

UnSPORTSMANlike conduct? More like UnHUMANlike conduct. Thank you Jeff Fisher!

Also good to see T.O. going over there, making sure Gurode was all right.

I would have tossed him for the rest of the year. Goodell is being too soft. Haynesworth could have easily killed or paralyzed Andre Gurode by doing what he did.

Why are there no criminal charges? I seem to recall from my reporting days that kicking someone in the head when they're on the ground is considered assault with a deadly weapon.

He had on grass spikes not those rubber soled shoes you wear on turf. I think criminal charges are necessary, charges were pursued in the Todd Bertuzzi incident, why not this one?

The Bertuzzi incident was actually somewhat within the rules of the game (you are allowed to hit people in hockey, just not from behind and not breaking their neck). However, you are not allowed to stomp on people's faces after the play in ANY sport. Criminal charges are necessary, without a doubt. Oh, and junkie, it's even more of an assault w/ deadly weapon when you've got friggin' SPIKES ON!

I didn't think too much of it when I read about it in the newspaper, I mean, I figured he had his helmet on, but after watching it, I'm really starting to hate Haynesworth.

I've also heard he stomped on another player's chest in 2003. It was apparently a training camp skirmish with a fellow Titans player.

In 2003, when Hartwig played with the Titans, he saw Haynesworth's temper up close.

"It was the first couple of days of training camp I had been beating him in one-on-one drills. I had stopped him in a bull-rush pass rush drill. When he let up I dropped to my knees and he kicked me in the chest," Hartwig said. "I grabbed his foot when he kicked me, and another offensive lineman came in and cleaned him out.

Shameful!

Andre Gurode apparently has the option of filing criminal and or civil charges against Haynesworth. I'm not aware if he's made his decision yet.

I think he should press charges. But somehow I think that would damage his NFL career.

Let's hear what the world's finest news source had to say on the issue:

Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, suspended five games by the NFL for stomping on the head and kicking the face of Cowboys center Andre Gurode last Sunday, issued a statement this morning saying he "just wanted to make absolutely sure [Gurode] was dead for good." "The Titans pay me to do one thing out there—kill anyone who gets in my way," said Haynesworth, who is serving the longest suspension for on-field actions in league history for his attempted murder. "Doing a thorough job is just good fundamentals… On your first day of high-school ball, they tell you football's no more than blocking, tackling, and bodily assault with the intent to commit homicide." League officials have suggested that Haynesworth's suspension also include anger-management therapy and a refresher course in the rules and principles of football.

From the Associated Press: NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Albert Haynesworth won't face criminal charges for scraping his cleat across the unprotected face of Dallas center Andre Gurode, and said Thursday he would seek counseling for his behavior.

But the 6-foot-6, 320-pound Haynesworth could not answer the one question everyone wants answered: Why?

"It was a blur. It was a big, big mistake and something I wish I could do anything to take that back," said Haynesworth, who received a five-game suspension from the NFL.

Haynesworth spoke about an hour after Gurode's agent announced the center won't seek criminal charges against Haynesworth for stomping on his head during Sunday's 45-14 win for the Cowboys.

The five-game suspension is three games longer than the highest previous penalty for on-field behavior.

Haynesworth said he couldn't appeal because he committed the sin and deserved the punishment. He planned to meet with new NFL commissioner Roger Goodell next week.

"I got what I deserved," Haynesworth said.

Haynesworth planned to work out in Atlanta with former Falcons defensive lineman Chuck Smith during his suspension. He said he would spend the five Sundays watching his teammates with children at a Nashville community center, hoping to help them learn from his mistake.

He also planned to receive anger management counseling for outbursts he has had on the field dating back to his time at the University of Tennessee.

Haynesworth is losing $190,000 in salary during the suspension, which he called a lot of money. But that loss isn't what worries him most.

"Now Albert Haynesworth is known for something despicable, just not for being a good player or the face of the NFL like Chad Johnson or Terrell Owens, for that matter. It's known for this incident, so I know I lost a lot of respect," he said.

"My goal is to get back, work as hard as I can and just bust my butt on the field and try to earn that respect back from everybody."

Gurode needed 30 stitches to close seven cuts and may require plastic surgery to repair the damage to his face. His blurry vision is starting to clear, but he still is suffering headaches, according to his agent, Kennard McGuire.

The center talked with his family in recent days before deciding not to have Haynesworth arrested. A lawsuit remains a possibility, McGuire said Thursday.

"He's agonized and he's deliberated back and forth on this, and he has no desire to pursue any criminal charges at this time," McGuire said. "But I think in going forward this young man just wants answers."

Haynesworth couldn't provide answers even when asked about a college incident -- he got in a scuffle with a teammate, left the field, and then returned with a long metal pole looking for him. In 2003 with the Titans, he kicked center Justin Hartwig after a play in practice.

The tackle said he was immature then and considered himself grown-up now. He described Sunday as "hopefully a flashback that'll never happen again."

McGuire described Gurode as still in disbelief that Haynesworth stepped on him after a play in which Julius Jones scored on a touchdown run.

"He still is the one that's looking in the mirror," McGuire said. "He still is the person and individual that's looking at the replay of this going, `What on earth did I do to deserve this?"'

The Onion Rules! I've been going to that site since about 1998.

I didn't read the title before I read the article, because it was cut off on the link. So I got to the part about "just wanted to make sure he was really dead" and I started actually laughing out loud. Normally, I don't laugh that hard at something I read, but...

I agree, the Onion rules!!:D I love reading the stuff there.

Haynesworth should be out for at least the season. Fisher, being the coach he is, may not take Haynesworth back, even after the 5 game suspension is served. One can only hope.

Speaking of Fisher, Al Davis needs to get ahold of this guy asap to right our sinking ship

Yeah Fisher is a passionate guy. I remember him once getting into a fist-fight on the sideline with Buddy Ryan when they were both on the same coaching staff.

I'm sure Jeff could right the Raiders' ship if Davis would relinquish the con. (For those of you who never served in the Navy, that refers to the Conning Tower from which one steers and navigates a submarine or ship.) By the way, sending out a virtual salute to all the fine mariners on the U.S.S. Stump, U.S.S. Phoenix and U.S.S. Jarrett.

But you might be ignoring another option. Bill Cowher still doesn't have a contract for next season! And as I'm sure you know a lot of speculation has him moving on from Pittsburgh as there is nothing left for him to accomplish in the Steel City. Now Oakland might just be the perfect place for a tough, no-nonsense kind of coach like Cowher, again Davis would have to get out of the way.

Also, I'm not sure what Fisher's contractual obligations are past this season. If he is under contract, I don't think it would be unreasonable for the Titans to demand two first round draft picks for him. But I think it would be stupid of the Raiders to give up those picks.

Either guy would be a great choice, depending on the scenario, and a real accomplishment to get aboard.

And Snake, I hope you're right and Fisher suspends that scumbag for the rest of the season, or simply voids his contract.
