According to the Associated Press: DELBARTON, W.Va. -- Paul McCoy rushed for an apparent national high school-record 658 yards and scored 10 touchdowns Friday.

McCoy, who had 29 carries in Matewan's 64-0 win over Burch, ran for 477 yards just on his touchdown runs, which covered 69, 1, 52, 56, 52, 20, 31, 84, 87 and 25 yards. He also had a 77-yard TD run called back by penalty.

The National Federation of State High School Associations lists the national record as 619 yards, set by Ronney Jenkins of Oxnard, Calif., in 1995. McCoy's yardage will have to be verified before it becomes official.

McCoy's 10 touchdowns would tie him with two others for the second most nationally. The record is 12 set by Ken Pearson of Hugo, Colo., in 1930.

McCoy, who is averaging 364 yards per game, has 1,820 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns this season.

I couldn't help noticing that he lives in West Virginia and his name is McCoy.

It's a good thing he didn't break any Hatfield records, he'd be in serious danger right about now.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Couldn't remember the other name, though.

I think this guy was already getting big time offers from USC, West Virginia, and Marshall.

I wonder if he as that good or if his opponents are that bad that they give up that many yards him...

Same thing I was wondering when I heard this story. Any solid running back can rush for 700 yards against a cupcake, but is he playing against high level opponents?

hmm...at 5'8 and a buck fifty or so, your time in the forty better be around 4.4 or below. He is running at 4.63 or so, definately not a burner. I gotta imagine he is playing against inferior competition, and he must have some skills and vision. Doesn't look like he would be as good a RB at the next level. I see the USC site has him listed as a Safety prospect. I just checked and he is not even rated by the ESPN Insider Recruiting Scouts.

I didn't know he was that small. I suppose he could be decent in the college game, but there's no way he'd survive the NFL at that size. He needs at least another inch or two in height, and another 50 or so pounds of muscle. Listed as a safety prospect for USC? He's still pretty small for a safety.

I don't know what position he could play. They have him with 12 reps, repping how many pounds?? I checked Sparq and it's 185 lbs. That's below average strength for a college safety. I'm sorry to say but he's not legit.
