Martin is 4th all-time in rushing. I think that is very impressive. And he only played 11 seasons. A Five time Pro Bowler, 1 rushing title. What do you guys think?

I think he gets in the HOF the first year he's eligible.
The guy was never anything short of amazing.

11 years is a misleading figure since running backs always have shorter careers compared with the rest of the postions just due to the injuries they face and the impacts they have to take. His numbers are Hall of Fame numbers.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I was trying to say that Martin racked up his 14,000+ yards in only 11 seasons and that is impressive. Of the top 10 all-time in rushing only Barry Sanders and Jim Brown played fewer seasons.
Martin never seemed to be the glamor guy, even in new York, but all he did was produce great number year after year after year. You don't keep a guy like that out.

That's still and insult to him to knock him because it took him 11 years to put up those numbers. He was the most consistant running back of the late 90s and early 2000s. His closest competitors aren't doing as well as him in the stats over similar time frames despite playing on better teams.
Sanders and Brown were different kind of rushers playing under different conditions: Brown was a pure power rusher playing on one of the best teams ever and Sanders was a finese rusher who did his best work breaking tackles on the carpets that were popular up until the late 90s. Martin was not a power rusher and he wasn't relying on breaking tackles to gain more yardage- he just went straight ahead.

:ughh: Ok, let's try this again. I wasn't insulting or knocking Martin. I was praising him! Rushing for over 14,000 yards in only 11 seasons is pretty darn impressive. The running backs behind Martin on the all-time list had fewer rushing yards and played more seasons.

Ok, and all three we great running backs. I wouldn't call Sanders a finesse back, though. It takes great strength to break tackles. Sure he has great speed, but Sanders was 5'9" and weighed 205 lbs in his prime. He was built like a tank. He had a muscular upper body and powerful legs.

Fair enough, I was interpretting it differently. Thank you for the clarification.

He spinned and danced around guys left and right, that to me is the definition of finesse rushers. You have to have great strength to do that- and he did that. That's not a knock on him, he used it to greater effect than anyone in history and had he played more years he would have set himself apart from anybody...
