The Patriots traded (http://www.patriots.com/news/index.cfm?ac=latestnewsdetail&pid=21058&pcid=41) Deion Branch to the Seahawks for a 2007 first round draft pick.
You can have him Seattle.

Looks like I'll have to change my name to something like "brady_watson".

He adds depth to our reciving core. I like this move for both teams. Maybe this will shut the critics up about the Panthers now that we have a reciver that can actually do something other than give the other reciver less coverage.

Nice trade. I wouldn't put Branch among the elite receivers with Smith, Holt, Johnson, Owens, etc., but he's a solid receiver and if the Seahawks weren't already the NFC superbowl favorites I suppose that they are now even more than before.

If Darrell Jackson is healthy and Deion Branch can be lined up at the slot receiver -- this could work out. If Jackson is still banged up and Branch is expected to be the man -- this could get ugly fast.
With the arm Hasselback has, I doubt it will come to that.

Branch should be a big help to Seattle no matter what, it wasn't really a good move for the Patriots. Here in New England the take is the Pats did not think Branch could get the money or work a trade, so the Pats misread the situation and are stuck with it.

They got exactly what the wanted for him- a first round pick. He wasn't going to play much this year and when he did play he would affect how the other members of the team performed negatively. On top of they they are getting 20% of his signing bonus plus half his paycheck this year back becuase of his holdout.
Frankly it was best for them to get rid of him and get a great draft pick instead of keeping him around all year and getting nothing when he signed elsewhere.

Couldn't agree more. This was a great move by the Patriots. It's rare that you can get a first round draft pick for a glorified possession receiver.
Plus, Chad Jackson is already better than Branch. Jackson is averaging 21 yards a catch. And with Watson, Graham, Thomas, Brown and Faulk -- this team has a lot of fantastic receivers -- even if they're not all WRs.

They can have our first round pick, it is going to be #32 anyway. :)

Do you know what cracks me up? The irony!
The 'Hawks signed Branch to like a $40 million deal.
Remember what was going on a few months back? "We can't sign Alexander, we can't afford Hutchinson....."
Suddenly, $40 million appears? Gimme a break!

Even more irony is that Hutchinson was an important cog in their rushing game. The Seahwawks already had a solid receiving game before Branch.

When he starts crying foul over the lack of catchers and money again in a few years and his replacement is tearing up the AFC East you will see who is smiling ;)

So far, in two games combined, Deion Branch has five catches for 80 yards -- 16.0 yards per catch. Was it worth it for a first round draft pick and $40 million?
Think if that $40 million had went to Steve Hutchinson that just maybe Shaun Alexander might still be healthy?
As for the first round pick being #32, does anybody still think that? The latest news from ESPN on Alexander is, "Coach Mike Holmgren is not confident Alexander (foot) will be avilable for the team's next game, Oct. 15 against St. Louis."
That pick could come a little sooner in the draft now.
