How do you think he'll do as a head goach? Is it good for his future coaching prospects to take the job now in mid-season and inherit a train wreck, and would he have been better served by staying as Def. Coord. for an interim coach for the rest of the season?

Singletary has been a top candidate for years. It's about time he got a head coaching job. Considering how often he's been passed up, I can't blame him for grabbing the opportunity once he got it.

He's already made headlines, sending my former fantasy TE Vernon Davis to the showers because he wasn't trying. One has to wonder if Davis is NFL in the NFL.

The sports talk shows out here are running clips of Singletary's press conference nonstop. It's become the West Coast Jim Mora.

If the Niners can get a good QB they have a chance to be good under Singletary. I would give him a chance to be a head coach after this season.

Remember, the Niners aren't run by rocket scientists, they view the game a bit differently than the rest of the league. With that said, I hope Mike gets a chance to handle the team on his own. He's got the right attitude, and that kind of thing tends to become part of the psyche of a team. I mean, anyone here think Vernon Davis will continue to act like an idiot? Not as long as Mike is there he wont.

But this team has some talent, in some ways it just needs to focus. Oh, and having a better QB would help too. :help:

Wow, how spot on. Singletary has brought that focus and team is doing well now. As shocking as this may sound if the 49ers would have won the Monday night game in Arizona they would be 6-7 right now. That's not a great record but it would definitely be a major improvement over last season. Even at 5-8 they is showing major improvement. I'm excited for the game in Miami on Sunday.

Mike Singletary now has the interim tag dropped from the front of his title. I get the feeling he's going to be around for a long while. The team is a good draft away from being competitive again.

Besides having stability with Singletary, this team MUST find an offensive coordinator that will stay longer than one year!! The job is cursed as badly as the Defense Against the Dark Arts job at Hogworts! Seven coordinators in seven years makes it impossible to develop consistency. No wonder Alex Smith struggled so much!

But at least the team has a leader now.

Just throwing a name out there but how about Singletary's former Bears team mate and current head coach of the Stanford Cardinal's Jim Harbaugh?

If anyone can salvage whatever Alex Smith has left Harbaugh is likely the man. He was a first round draft pick at QB out of the U. of Michigan in 1987. In '95 he earned the comeback player of the year award.

He played for coaching greats like Bo Schembechler, Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan. And his brother John Harbaugh did an awfully fine job leading the Ravens to an 11-5 record and a playoff birth this season.

As a college head coach Jim Harbaugh's 38-21 with two conference championships. I think Harbaugh would excel at the position. The only question is, would he want the job?

On the face of it, a good suggestion. But I don't think Jim wants a OC job, methinks he wants HQ jobs or nothing. But recently I've heard his name both for an extension at Stanford and possibly be up for the Raiders job.
