Five-year veteran wide receiver Todd Pinkston, released Wednesday by the Philadelphia Eagles, on Friday evening reached an agreement in principle with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year contract. The deal was officially signed Saturday.

Pinkston will be reunited in Minnesota with first-year Vikings head coach Brad Childress, who was Pinkston's offensive coordinator with the Eagles. It was widely speculated as soon as Pinkston was released that the receiver-needy Vikings would have an interest in him. Several teams inquired about Pinkston, but he met Thursday with team officials in the Twin Cities and passed the Vikings' physical examination.

That is how he earned the name Todd Stinkston. I have a friend who is an Eagle fan who says Stinkston is good. I said KILL YOURSELF!!

Thought, I'd do a little mid-season review of how Todd Pinkston is doing in Minnesota. The first thing I noticed is that he hasn't caught a pass for the Vikings all year. Next I checked the roster and he's not on it.

Now Pinkston had tendinitis in both Achilles tendons that caused him to miss a lot of time in Eagles training camp this year and he missed all of last year with a ruptured right Achilles tendon. He wasn't listed on the injury report.

Next I looked at all the team's transactions for the year and shockingly, or perhaps not, Pinkston was released by the Vikings on 9 September -- just seven days after the team signed him.

The NFL doesn't list him as being on the roster of any team. This means one of four things: he's retired; he's rehabing; he's on a NFL practice squad; or he's playing in another league, i.e. the CFL, Arena League, etc.

I even Googled him to see if I could find new information about him on there but no luck. That probably rules out him playing in the Arena League or the CFL -- there would have been a press release.

Most likely he's completely out of football -- kind of sad actually. He was only a second round draft pick and in 2002 he did have 60 receptions for 798 yards and seven touchdowns. If he hadn't had such severe tendinitis and then that torn achilles tendon he would have matched up well as a second receiver with T.O. in the early part of 2005 and might still be an Eagle today -- third wide out behind Reggie Brown and Donte Stallworth.

I also think it is kind of ridiculous for Eagles' fans to consider a second round pick at wide out to be a failure just because he only played five years for the team -- and oh yeah ruptured his achilles tendon trying to play for you.

Anybody here ever rupture an achilles tendon? Not the most pleasant of experiences, I imagine.

The last thing I heard about Pinkston was he filed a grievance against the Eagles for cutting him while he was injured. Aside from that, I don't know if he's even worked out for another team.

Pinkston was a decent guy as long as he didn't have to worry about too much contact on his routes. Thinking about some of the things he did with the Eagles though, it's no wonder he got the Stinkston nickname. The guy couldn't get off the line against Carolina in the one NFCCG. He cut off routes if he thought he was going to get hit during a reception and alligator-armed other passes.

For a guy with no bulk that relies on speed, I'm sure an Achilles' injury is one of the worst things that could happen to him. He didn't seem as fast in the preseason, which makes me wonder if he's not fully healthy yet or if that is how he'll be for the rest of his career.

I view Pinkston as a guy couldn't and wouldn't do what it takes/took to become a better player in the NFL. He came in the league at a slight 165 lbs and didn't want to get any bigger, some sources list him at 175 lbs, some 180 lbs.

(look at this past or present, depends on his status)
