Continuous complaining and consistently buttery fingers seemed to contradict WR Roy Williams' statements that he loved being a Lion and that you can pencil him in for the future. The Lions took advantage of the Dallas Cowboys' team issues and stocked up for next years' draft by trading Williams and a '09 7th-rounder to the Cowboys for their 1st, 3rd, and 6th-round picks in '09.
Yes, this means the already defunct offense the team is currently sporting will get *gasp* worse, it also means it gets better...next year. And yeah, the 1st-rounder will most likely be near the end of the round (high 20's), but this gives the next coach and GM a quicker opportunity to put a new flavor on the future of this team and wash itself from Millen's stench.

Does this show the confidence they have in CJ?

I hope now they will throw to him more. It seemed like the last couple of weeks they were really trying to let Williams really show them something by throwing to him and throwing to him and throwing to him.
So the Lions have a QB in Jon Kitna who is never at fault and (had) a receiver in Williams who is never at fault. A lot of missed plays between the two perfect players.
This is Johnson's shot to show he was worth the draft pick. I can't believe all those high pick receivers flopped. Don't let your Tech fans down, Calvin.

I think as soon as Millen was canned, Williams' fate with the Lions was sealed. Apparantly, and according to Jerry Jones, the Cowboys tried to acquire Williams multiple times over the past two years, including on draft day of this year. Obviously Millen didn't want to budge. I wonder if Millen turned down an even better offer than the one they just got? Hmmm...
Calvin Johnson is definitely the real deal at WR. I believe the main reason Williams was getting the ball thrown to him so much over the past couple of weeks is because the team was trying their best to "showcase" him for potential trade partners. Johnson still has some growing pains to struggle through, but he'll get there. He's going to miss Williams plenty, as he'll now see consistent double-teams with Furrey or whoever lines up on the other side of the field not quite the threat Butterfingers was.
Now what do the Lions do with the extra 1st-rounder? How about: draft a WR!! :applaud:
