It's always a week by week thing, because if I said USC and Notre Dame, and they both were 6-4 headed into the game than obviously it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

The week 1 games i'm looking forward to are

Southern Miss @ Florida (Only because i'm a Gators fan, hopefully it's over by halftime because I don't want to have some opening day stress.)

California @ Tennessee (Now this is a matchup of my pick to win the Pac 10, and one of many teams that could win the SEC. It isn't as highly touted as it should be, but I feel that it will be a hard fought game. I like Cal's front four, and I feel that they will be able to pressure Ainge into making some bad decisions and Cals running game will cash in. It will be close, but the Bears will get a huge SEC road win just like USC got in 2003, which will lead to a national title game apperance.)

BYU @ Arizona (This is one of those games, where I don't think there is a clear favorite. I like Arizona to improve this year, and contend in the Pac 10. BYU is one of the nations top 10 mid-majors. I think this game goes either way, but if BYU picks it up it will be a huge win for them. The Cougars are one of those teams that can just as easily go 3-0, as 0-3 with their non-conference.)

Boston College @ Central Michigan (upset alert, I know BC won at BYU last year and CMU is a much weaker team, but CMU will want to put on a good show for their home crowd)

Minnesota @ Kent St. (For the first time in many years, they will have a weaker running game. Cupito has had enough problems with players like Maroney, and Barber III running for him. Now with even Russell gone the Gophers are ripe for a week 1 upset, let alone being on the road against a MAC team who has struggled the last few years and is looking to make a statement)

Nevada @ Fresno St. (Potentially the WAC championship game, I personally think it is because Boise St. will finally make a fall this year. Both of these teams, on paper, are way better than the Broncos.)

Utah @ UCLA (This is one of those rare times where the BCS conference team is an underdog at home against a mid-major. UCLA has homefield advantage, and Chris Markey will have a breakout game kicking off his breakout season. With that said, Utah will pick up the big win on the road against a BCS conference team that they lack in 2004.)

Northwestern @ Miami U (After the death of HC Randy Walker, it will be interesting to see how both of these teams respond. Walker was a Miami U alum. Northwestern though could come out either completely flat, or use it at motivation and blow out the Red Hawks. I don't know what will happen, hopefully the game is televised because it should be interesting to watch.

I'm surprised so many of these big time teams are playing at little schools.

Go Flashes.

ND @ USC: we should've won last year (you'll never get me to admit we lost- I watched that game from start to finish and we were the better team) and this year, there'll be no Reggie Bush to help USC cheat.

I agree that Notre Dame had USC on the ropes, but they lost to Michigan State so that cancels it out as far as I am concerned. Plus they got ripped by Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl.

I like the big schools playing at the small ones, it's good because it gives the small schools a chance to prove themselves. If Kent State goes to the Metrodome, they would get ripped to little bits but with the home crowd behind them and the fact Minnesota lost their top 2 running backs and were never a great passing team or defensive team to begin with I think Kent State has a very good chance.

looking forward to that one as well but the one i want to watch is the auburn/lsu game. they both should be undefeated and that will end one teams national championship bid.

I'm looking forward to seeing Georgia Tech and Notre Dame week 1. I'm predicting an upset. Of course, I am also looking forward to Alabama vs. Hawaii.

Just an interesting note for Ohio State vs. Texas:

Last year OSU opened with a 34-14 win over Miami OH. This year a 35-12 win over NIU (same conference). Last year Texas opened with a 60-3 win, this year with 56-7.

Doing some math:

OSU improved 3 points
TEX dropped 8 points
Factor in 4 points for home field each way - Jeff Sagarin

That means an 11 point natural swing, an 8 point home field swing, which means tie game. Will it be such a showdown? I wish - this is wishful thinking. Texas looks awesome, the Bucks look awful. Take Tex big.

At this point in the season, if Miami doesn't improve, and Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech beat who they're supposed to, the Coastal Divison race could hinge on the Yellow Jackets vs. Hokies game next Saturday. I'm looking forward to that.

But BC will then shut down the winner of that game in the ACC Championship. I think. Which division are the Eagles in? I think it's Atlantic, but I could very well be wrong.

Sweet, I just became the 13th member of the 100 post club.
