Some people it's obvious, but what are your favorite programs? Mine are Northwestern (R.I.P. Randy Walker), Boston College, and USC. Maryland is fourth.

I guess I am one of the obvious ones; the Alabama Crimson Tide is my favorite. Game Time is coming up tomorrow and the ghost of Bear Bryant is hovering over Bryant Denny Stadium and all of Tuscalossa for that matter. I miss him dearly. All of these other coaches are nothing but imposters. Roll Tide Roll.

Notre Dame, Rutgers, UNC-Wilmington, and BC are probably my favorites.

There's a lyric from a terrfic song by Steely Dan, "Deacon Blues" written in the mid-70's, I guess,it goes...

"They've got a name for the winners in the world,
I want a name when I lose,
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide,
Call me Deacon Blues"

I was a big Bear Bryant and Tide fan, don't know why. Went to Mizzou, whcih hasn't really had a bonafide top Ten type team since the 60's, so I don't get too excited about them. I'm a bit fair weather in rooting for football teams, but I've always liked USC, usually Nebraska, Texas, Ohio St., Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn St. I hate the 3 Florida powerhouses, U of Fl., State and Miami and now S. Carolina since Spurrier is their coach. Also Oklahoma and Colorado.

Volunteers and Notre Dame!! They both won in week one but Notre Dame was very lucky. Tennessee totally dominated California.

Anthony Morelli did GREAT for his first career start with 16 passes for 206 yards and three touchdown passes in the 34-16 win over Akron.

QB Joe Tereshinski and Matthew Stafford each threw for touchdowns as #15 Georgia whips Western Kentucky 48-12 at Sanford Stadium.

Penn State won big against Akron but when I looked at the box score I was shocked. It looked a lot closer than the score showed. Akron had more time of possession by a full 15 minutes! Akron also went 4 for 4 on 4th down conversions and Penn State went 0 for 2. Penn State's D pretty much shut Akron down holding them to 225 total yards, but then Penn State only had 282 total yards themselves.

I was looking at a recap of the UGA/Western Kentucky game and Matthew Stafford looked good out there. He made precise passes and he was composed in the pocket.

It is good to hear from another fan on this site that rooted for Bear Bryant and his "quick little boys" back when we ruled college football. This post is mainly directed to you and Oswald (you could have found somewhere better for your son to go than Auburn). I'm just kidding. Anyway, it just makes me sick seening Mike Schula in the Bear's chair while he does his show and that coke commercial of his. Everytime I see him I can't help but thinking that any day now Bear Bryant (even though we lost him a quarter century ago) is going to walk in there and say "what are you doing in my chair boy". I can imagine Schula getting up and saying "I'm sorry sir" in that midwestern accent of his. Then Bear Bryant will say, "I am back and so is the Crimson Tide" with that southern drawl. I guess we are about the only people here old enough to remember the Bear. I have started a biography of his recently. I had forgotten that when he died the Alabama area code was overwhelmed with calls and went out of service. Do ya'll remember this? The young people here don't undertand what an incredible person and coach he was. It seemed like he was going to win every time out. I'm thinking about Joe Namath and Ken Stabler a lot recently. I remember them more for their days with Alabama than any SuperBowl victory. Last year was the first year that I watched Alabama regularly in quite a while. That LSU game seemed like a cruel joke. I can safely say that would not have happened under the Bear. I only met Mr. Bryant once, but it is amazing what kind of impact he has had on my life. I miss him so much. Anyday now the Bear will be back and the Tide will Roll once again. I know that is a ridicuouls dream, but I have been living it for 25 years. It's almost surreal how important he and Crimson Tide football were to me years ago. I couldn't bring myself to watch the Hawaii game last week, but I plan on watching this week. Who here remembers the Bear? May the Tide Roll once again.

*Raises hand* I too remember Bear Bryant, I never cared for Bama, but he was definately one of the greatest coaches of all time. Though they aren't totally alike, I liken Bobby Bowden to him. I don't care for FSU either, but you can't deny the impact he has had with FSU, and on the state of Florida for that matter. Both coaches have managed to transcend football, and have impacted, not only their local communities, but their entire states as well.

Back on topic: Colleges I follow or root for: Syracuse, Notre Dame, Navy, and usually underdogs playing bigger colleges.

I'm not obvious either.
Oklahoma is my favorite.
I also have always had a soft spot for Notre Dame and Penn State.
I live in San Diego. I like to see the Aztecs do well. But it really hasn't happened since the Coryell days.

The Central Michigan Chippewas. I'm the type who believes you ought to root for your alma mater.
I root for the Big 10 schools when they face other conference foes, with  Michigan and Michigan State and Ohio State (raised in MI, live and work in OH) throughout the season. Whichever schools' fans are the least obnoxious around the time they play each other is who I'll root for at that time.
