Wasn't sure where to put this but,
High School football has started around here (I really should have done this last Friday), and well, I thought we needed a thread about our local high schools or alumini.
Here is my story:
Well, since I'm in the marching band, I've had to endure a winning school turn into a disaster, but this year, I have hope. Our school VB (not telling you what it is) broke an 8-game losing streak in week 1. Our passing game is good but our kicker (soccer player) missed 2 XPA. Our coach went for it on 4th and 17 on the 20 (talk about no faith).
Well, this is basically what this thread is about, hope you guys (and gals) have fun posting about your local HS.

I go to Southwest Dekalb High School in Decatur, GA. My school has turned out NFLers, Quincy Carter, Cosey Coleman, and Rodney Williams. Our team's O-Line has been rated one of the best in the state and we had a player sign with Auburn University. I've been asked to join the team many times and next year (my senior year), I'll put on the pads for the first time in 6 years and play wide reciever.

I would love to talk about my highschool football team. Except we dont have one for obvious reasons. Our school is too small to really support a team (around 200 kids) and our school does not have enough money to support a football team as well. So I dont see a football program ever coming here. But even with the absense of football at least we still got baseball, basketball and soccer which are all good.

My alma mater team finally sustained a string of decent years after decades of futility. They went from being the laughing stock of the state to being a very respectable team. At one point they were kicked out of the local conference, the biggest division, and even so far as to being nearly disbanded twice...but the coaches and players held strong and strung together some decent wins.
Unfortunately they are stuck in a cruddy conferance among regional tech schools 20+ miles away and don't get the amount of respect and coverage that their sister schools next door get let alone get to enjoy playing on the big fields like Boston U...but at least they finally started winning.

My teams first home game is today. We had a team last year that was mostly sophmores and juniors, and we were about .500. Our QB, RB, and 2 WR are Juniors this year, so we should have a really strong team next year.

Well, since I'm in the marching band
What instrument? I played drums back 100 years ago when I was in HS. I would have played football, but, at the time, was under the delusion that I would someday be a professional musician. Worked out for the best. If I had played football I would have just sat on the bench for 4 years, but I still play drums (not well, but I have fun).

Mordeci, I play the Trombone.
Anyways, our team lost 21-20 tonight. What was strange was that on the 1st XPA, our kicker kicked the ball into the offensive line. It was a screaming line drive into our own players. Our kicker went 0-2 but we converted a 2-pointer (on the 2nd TD). So basically, our kicker blew the game.
Well, I hope all of PSF's HS teams won besides mine.

My school, in New Jersey, won the state championship in 2002. Our school has never turned out any great players, though. I think a long time ago someone who played on the Jets went to our school, but since I can't even remember his name and he went to my school I doubt you guys would recognize the name. Our best players in more recent history went to D2 colleges. Anyway I think last year we were 8-4 or somewhere around there. We should be good pretty soon though. Last year's freshmen team (which was my class) was 9-0 so in a few years our school will be pretty good.

Lol, my local High School team is already 2-0. We have one of the best RBs in the state. If not for Ernesto, we would have played our 3rd game this week. Last week, our RB set both the school career rushing record (only 2 weeks into his senior season, so he is gonna put the record out of reach for awhile, lol) and the single game rushing record with 405 yds, he also added 6 TDs. In 2 games this year he has 650 yds rushing, and well over 5,000 in his career. He is going for 3,000 yds rushing for the season. I am thinking he may actually get it. I think if he does, he will only be the 7th or 8th in NC history to do it.
Last year the team finished 10-2, and got upset in the State Playoffs, hopefully this year, we will make a better run at the State Championship.
Go Northeastern Eagles!!!!

I see, so the season is tailored to the school year.
For those who started "early"- How long are the seasons and are teams given more than one bye week?
Up here it's at least 10 games a season(some go 11), at least one bye week, plus a half a week extra before Thanksgiving...

We have teams ranked in a region, but I don't know how the regions are determined. Then you have class, which is determined by how many students a school has.

OK, since if I describe this game, it would be totally biased but I'm going to copy word for word from the Dayton Daily News.
FAIRMONT 26, VANDALIA-BUTLER 20
All the drama unloaded in the final five seconds of this non-league game. The Firebirds scored the go-ahead TD with :05 left. Butker returned the ensuing kickoff to tie the game. After a long huddle, officials waved that score off and ordered a kickoff do-over, which ended uneventfully. Apparently, a whistle was blown during the first kickoff while the Butler returner was being stopped. But the play continued and his fumble was picked up and returned for what was thought to be the tying TD.
OK, so when I saw this happening, I was screaming, people above me were now below me. A sucessful Michigan-Nebraska Alamo Bowl play. And then came confusion, then came the boos. Stupid refs, still trying to figure out who payed them off.

4 games into the season, and our High School is 4-0. The RB I told you guys about before is up to 1,086 yds through the first 4 games. If he can get a another 400 yd game or 2 and a few more 300 yd games, he may actually be able to break 3,000 yds this season. I think he has already verbally committed to East Carolina University, even though teams like Penn State and Nebraska have been looking at him. I believe he wants to stay close to home, at least for now, things could change by signing day.

Seems like a solid back, he looks like he'll be a power back in college. If he rushes for 3,000 yards he'll should definetly de-commit from East Carolina.
We have a few guys at my high school getting offers. I mentioned a guy before who signed with Auburn. We have another linebacker who lists Clemson, UGA, and Miami (FL) as his top choices. We have a defensive end who lists Arkansas, Clemson, and Duke as his top choices. Hopefully those guys can get scholarships and add to the tradition of Southwest Dekalb High School.

Oh ya, he's a definate power back, lol. A normal scene is him running over 1 or 2 guys, and then dragging 3 more down the field for an extra 15 yds or so. He has good quickness and initial burst, and even though not many High Schoolers can catch him from behind when he hits open field, he lacks truly great speed. He is fast enough to be a really good RB in college, and he is one of those guys that gets stronger as the game goes on. He could easily pound in 25-30 rushes a game at the next level.
The amazing thing is that he is all natural. Lol, I don't even think he could tell you how to get to the weight room in the high school :D I had heard that some of his linemen had managed to drag him there a couple of times, but he is definately no regular there. I could only imagine how good he could be with a regular college weight training regimen.

Our coach refuses to call any runs except draw plays, and he only calls those about once every four downs. Our QB is pretty bad, but our receivers (both sophomores) are worse. They drop lob passes that were about six inches out in front of their hands. What makes it worse is that we have a very good running back (also our kicker) who could do really well in an option scheme where he could use his speed. Our QB isn't too slow either.

Our running backs haven't been consistent enought to gain that many yards and plus the coach doesn't stick with his players if they make mistakes.

Well, our guys took a 3 hour trip just to lose. The final score was 42-14 and it was an end to the season.

Ya, our season is over too. At least we didn't have to go anywhere though :p We lost to Southwest Onslow (Jacksonville) 16-14 in the second round of the playoffs. Our coach is dumb is the reason we lost. I feel bad for the boys on the team, they had a really good chance to do something this year.

At least your "dumb coach" got you to the playoffs.
This is a reasonably old video (from 1994), so I don't know how many of ou have seen this but Plano East are down to John Tyler 41-17 with 3 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Totally insane.

Our championships just ended in Georgia and in two classes we came out with co-champions!! It's the first time this has happened in GHSA history.
5A-Roswell and Peachtree Ridge
4A-Northside-Warner Robins
3A-Peach County
2A-Charlton and Dublin
1A-Lincoln County
Just go to Rivals.com and see how many prospects these championship teams have.
