View Full Version : New Meadowlands Stadium Construction

I like the original design better as well. I have been to fedEx and it is a terirrible Stadium. You feel like you are 2 miles away in the Upper Level. One of the great things about the current meadowalnds is every seat is pretty good and you aren't that far away in the Upper level.

Man..its hard to get excited about the new stadium now. Starting to realize that I'll be watching from home in 2010 because of the PSL's. I have seats in the upper level which are free from PSL's as you know.
Many people are moving up with much more seniority and I'll be forced out or to pay a PSL which I refuse to do....

I'm guessing it will be the same or they'll out a new meadowlands logo at midfield. When they had turf it was easy to take out the end zone and switch logos but with the field turf where there aren't cut outs they have to paint over it every week and you can always so the other logo underneath which isn't a good look so I don't think they'll put logos at midfield.

It's better than the current stadium, that's for sure. Plus, this thing has to be "neutral" with the Jets and Giants sharing ownership of the facility, hence the gray seats.
And FWIW: those four gigantic video boards are pretty awesome. I think this stadium will have more HD square footage than any other facility in North America.

I'm kinda surprised to see the bad sight-line in the corners there. Granted, it's only the corner of the endzone that is not visible from there, but come on - especially for the cost of this place, combined with the ticket prices that will be gouged out of people.

When there is a play in the EZ everyone stands up anyway.
People standing up shouldn't even matter. Even from that angle, standing up would do no good. I like the stadium overall, but there is just no excuse for that. They didn't catch this in the early phases of the design process and just proceeded - if I had to guess.
It isn't as though they had street grid contraints that caused this flaw in the design. They had an entire parking lot with all the room they could stand.
The architects either let this slip by, or they caught it and just didn't care.

I took a tour recently and I asked that question. W/ the old turf they were able to do it as the field was made up of cut outs but the new field turf they have had at the meadowlands since 2003 was one long strip so they couldn't just remove the end zones or midfield pieces.
W/ the new field turf they have installed at the new Stadium they are cut ups again and they will be changing the midfield logo and the EZ logos.

I wish we got the Manhattan Stadium that was proposed a few years ago but I'm glad the building won't be red and blue anymore.
I like the Stadiums w/ an open end but it is so windy over that an open end was impossible so they went w/ the box type of Stadium.
By the way, alot of the Stadium is open through cracks and the wind at the new place will be alot worse than at the old place.

Too bad the Jets couldn't go forward with their own stadium. I was really excited about this design.

I think this facility looks great. It'll look even more impressive when lighted in Giants blue and Jets green on gameday.

I hate to be overly critical but it just doesn't do much for me. Bland and utilitarian are the type of adjectives that come to mind for me. It just looks like a slightly larger new & improved version of the old stadium. I'm sure it will serve it's purpose fine though, housing two NFL football teams and hosting 20 NFL football games every year (not counting playoffs).

If you're a NJ/NY transplant out to the Pacific NW, then disregard my post, although I'll still disagree with you.

I agree with seattle, this stadium is just like an updated version of the stadium, which unlike yankee stadium wasn't that impressive to begin with. Then again I'm from Tampa where our football stadium has some shape and diversity.

W/ the wind in the meadowalnds there was no way they could have an open end or have a Stadium like Raymond james unfortunately.
This Stadium, like most, is all about greed. though i hated playing in "Giants Stadium", the Stadium itself was perfect for football. The best Stadium for viewing a football game that I have been in.

I haven't been to Pitt but watching games on TV I would say yes- much worse.

I like Tampa's stadium from what I've seen of it on TV. Seems to have some character to it.

I think the only thing saving us from looking too much like the titans LP stadium is the fact that we whole heartly embraced the buccaneers attitude and made a pirate theme row of concession stands and the big ship in one endzone.

QWest Field in Seattle has a lot more design to it. Very cool stadium. the New Meadowlands is growing on me with the turf down but still reminds me of FedeX FIELD which was built to hold the most people. I understand that NY and Washington have a higher population than Seattle and there fore larger stadiums but QWest field is still more visually pleasing than either of these stadiums. Before any one asks Yes I have been to FedEx in person and Yes I have been to Qwest. Better game experiance in Seattle.

Yes, I've been there and it's difficult to find a better NFL facility anywhere. In terms of the new Meadowlands stadium vs. FedEx Field, the huge difference lies in the things you can't see in these pics. Wait until it's done and then judge. Or go to the Giants website and click on the new stadium link. It'll give you all you need to know.

I hope they don't use pallets for the end zone, considering the issues in Houston players getting thier cleats stuck in the seams and blowing thier knees out. I also remeber having a uneasy feeling when Sanchez hurt his knee in the SkyDome, which had pallets of FieldTurf until this week.

I actually like the way it looks, the only problem i have, which is with every new stadium it seems, is the 4 or 5 levels of luxury boxes  I wonder what it's like to sit in that upper deck, haven't been to an NFL game yet so i hope our new stadium in Industry isn't too bad.

What's nice to see is that the Jets aren't the Red Headed Step-Child in this stadium.

Am I the only one who thinks--modern ameneties notwithstanding--this stadium is the blandest looking in the NFL? I know that football stadiums in general aren't going to have the same unique features as baseball parks, but the stadiums built in the NFL in the last 20 years all seem to have some interesting aspects about them.
The outside looks like a suburban business park. The inside is just as bland with the slate gray seats. I know it's a shared stadium between the Jets and Giants, but couldn't they at least get some color in there? Perhaps have the upper deck in green and lower deck in blue, or visa versa. (Of course the teams would probably fight who gets what.) Or, hell, intermix blue and green seats throughout the stadium.
I'd say even FedEx Field is more interesting than Meadowlands Stadium--as boring as it is, at least that has some representation of the home team.

Pete I am with you and have been saying it since the first post on this thread. Its boring it has grey seats, no unique shape, if you wipe away the team names and stuff you might think you were in any of 5 different nfl stadiums.
That being said for being a neutral stadium they did the best they could. red, blue, green, and white are all pretty common colors so you are stuck with very little options in color. Grey probably is a good choice because it wont get too hot in the sun and wont get "confussed" with being too close to one teams colors.
I do like how they try to make it look like its for the Jets when they are there with the green lights on the outside, wall covers, and endzone logos.
I still don't know why they can't have two stadiums like the mets and yanks or like the la football teams did.
Finally great jumbo trons!

The seats have to be neutral color when two teams own the place. In terms of the outside styling, I haven't seen anyplace like it, especially with that louvered facade. Could it have been more inspiring? Sure, but it's great anyway. Just my opinion.
