Kerry Collins, jobless for most of the off-season after parting ways with the Oakland Raiders has signed with Tennessee Titans.

Collins put up solid numbers last season: 3,498 YDS, 20 to 12 TD to INT, 77.3 QB rating.

The talking heads are all spinning the possibility of Collins taking over the starting job from Billy Volek. But I don't think that's what happening at all. I think if the Titans wanted Collins to start the season at QB they would have brought him in five weeks ago.

I think the Titans have now got a look at Vince Young on the field and realized what a hole they'd be in if Volek got injured and the team was forced to start Young. Yes, I think Young is that bad and the Titan's coaching staff is that afraid and that is, in fact, what this move is about.

Extra insurance against even the freak chance of having to start Young anytime in the next few years.

Somebody prove me wrong. Young was a one-hit-wonder: the Rose Bowl. The Titans fell for the hype and now are trying to protect themselves from their own draft folly.

I dont think it's quita as bleak as the picture you painted, but I do agree with you. The Titans do not want to rely on Young starting any games this year, so it makes sense to bring in Collins for insurance. I am sure they also brought him in to help tutor Young. Volek doesn't really have a whole lot of experience himself, as far as being able to tutor another young QB anyways.

Well Young was pretty good the whole season in college last year, so I don't know if he was a one hit wonder, although his performance in the Rose Bowl definitely boosted up the hype even more. I really have no idea what to expect from Young in the future but after watching him in college I'm very excited to see him in the NFL.

I was wondering how long it would take for the Titans to pick up a decent QB. Young will be horrible. Can you say "worse than Ryan Leaf"?

I think we'll see Collins as the number two in Tennessee so that the franchise aren't forced to put in Vince Young for any extended periods of time before he's ready.

Nice deal for Collins..$2 million for sitting on the bench at 38 years old.
