Ending against the Packers again! :shhh:
I'm hoping it'll be an important and big-time game, but I've been hoping that since....

The NFC North should be very interesting this season. The Packers are still good, but they have lost Brett Favre. The Bears should have a good defense, but a poor offense. For the Vikes, Tavaris Jackson has to step up for them to be successful. With the Lions, I don't know. I think they will have a decent offense, but will Kitna be the starter the whole season? I'm hoping to see Drew Stanton get a start or two.

3-0 in the pre-season! We're going to the Super Bowl!!
Just kidding. I'm sure I'll get a chuckle out of this somewhere between weeks 10 and 14.
They are looking good, though. Good efforts in all games so far. Keep it up, guys (or I'll be legally insane in three years).

I know it's basically meaningless, but the 4-0 preseason was impressive in more ways than just a perfect record. This defense looks like it hustles for it's coach, and can apply consistent pressure. I like the demeanor this team has, at least as compared to the rest of the time since Millen arrived.
I think we'll get 9 wins, but would be fairly happy with a .500 record (as long as we don't finish in last). Kitna says 10 wins and a division title, but he's old and losing his mind. Let's hope they stay hungry and healthy...we could turn some heads this year (typical Lions fan statement at the end of preseason).

This was an ugly loss, and I really mean U-G-L-Y. There was no running game on our part, which was supposedly going to be our focal point. I believe Rudi Johnson had the longest run of the game for the away team. Not that Kevin Smith was terrible, he actually looked decent (especially for a rookie 3rd-rounder).
The O-line, our Achilles heel for decades now, is obviously still our weak point, and most likely will be all year long. That doesn't bode well for the rest of the season, as there is never help to be found on the O-line after pre-season is over. This is the group we're stuck with. If only we could have drafted O-linemen instead of guys like Charles Rogers and Mike Williams.
Kitna still looks old, which must be surprising to Matt Millen, but not to Lions fans. He managed a couple TD passes, including a fantastic grab by Roy Williams in the corner of the endzone, but otherwise was pretty lame. He tends to stand in the pocket too long, hang on to balls that he needs to ditch before the defense nails him. WR Calvin Johnson was great, but didn't see enough passes thrown his way to be a real threat in this game.
And speaking of defense, wasn't this the year that the players were supposed to "get" the Tampa 2 defense and finally click? Well, it must take three or four years in Detroit, because the lowly Falcons looked like the Patriots against our shoddy D. RB Michael Turner, who was LaDanian Tomlinsons' back-up in San Deigo, set a new Falcons single-game rushing record in his first start with Atlanta, pounding us for well over 200 yards.
U-G-L-Y.

Oh, the life of a Lions fan. Woe is us, that's for woefully damn sure. :faint:
Expected by few to put in a better showing in week 2 than the egg they laid in the opening game, the Lions jumped all over the Packers in the first home game of the season. Yep, jumped all over them for a 21-0 deficit mid-way through the second quarter. It's an improvement, though, because had they given this same effort against the Falcons, they would only have been down 10-0 mid-way through the second quarter.
In typical Lions fashion, they stormed back into the game, with Calvin Johnson catching two touchdowns to give the team their first lead of the season with just over 7 minutes to play in the game. Then all hell broke loose. A tired defense gave up the lead on a field goal a couple minutes later, then an interception by our QB of the Future (Jon Kitna) allowed the Packers to run into the endzone for an 8-point lead. With hope still spilling down the aisles of Ford Field, Kitna mopped it up with another pick thrown right to Charles Woodson, who was a game-day decision with a sore groin. Woodson took it to the house to officially end the Lions hopes. And just to rub salt in the large wound, Kitna threw yet another interception that was returned for a score.
So, to recap, the Lions were winning with just over 7 minutes left in the game, and in typical franchise fashion, lost by 23 points.
I don't even know what to say anymore (as if anyone was listening anyhow). :dismay:

Sitting on an 0-6 record, having traded our best WR for draft picks, and gazing at the remainder of the schedule, I have to think that a team will REALLY have to lay an egg to stop us from going 0-16. It's going to be ugly, as it already was, and I'm still going to be a Lions fan at the end of the season.
I know I'm in here talking to myself, but I need a little self-therapy. I've got to remember how hard watching the '03 Tigers was, even attending 10 games that season (Unbelievably, I witnessed 9 wins out of those 10 games), and how great it felt to watch what they did just three years later. I'm not predicting that the Lions will turn it all around that quick, but it can't get much worse, can it? I guess I'll answer myself in a few more weeks.
