We've run this discussion a few times before, but I want to know if anybody's opinion has changed after 2007.

Before 2007, I would have said Manning. Now, I'll go with Brady. In 2007, Brady finally got the talent at WR comparable to what Manning has had for the majority of his career, and he had a better season than any Manning has had. And he still has two more rings.

Brady's season for the ages does give him a solid argument he could be ranked higher than Manning. That's one of the things I'm really looking at for this upcoming season, what Brady can do for an encore and how well Manning can do, especially if he has a bit more luck in the health department. That's as much for them as it is for their teams and their Super Bowl chances.

I flip flop them constantly. I had Brady ahead, until Manning won the big one, and moved Manning ahead (probalby emotional, looking back I think Brady was still ahead). Then Brady had the fantastic 2007, and I now have Brady ahead. If he had won the superbowl, too, he would have cemented it.

But the fact that I'm still flip flopping means I checked too early to tell. Although I think Manning needs to do a lot to pass Brady. At least another super bowl if not two.

Manning. I think now that the Patriots have been greatly helped in recent years through the method of videotaping defensive signals. We would all be pretty good at Trivial Pursuit if we were allowed to look at the back of the cards before the question is asked!

And what makes you so sure the Colts haven't done the exact same thing? And what about Brady's 2007, NFL-certified taping-free?

The Pats went to another level because of Moss and Welker. Moss should have been the MVP last year, not Brady. As for Brady and Manning, I think Manning is a lot better. Brady gets too much credit for his team's success. If he started his career with another team, he would have been mediocre.

The same could be said for Manning, though. Would he be as good as he is without Marvin Harrison? I doubt it. Brady, up until 2007, had just about nobody good at WR. The first season he gets talent comparable to what Manning had for his entire career, he has arguably the best season ever. And what was Wes Welker doing before coming to the Patriots?

Well, in 06, Welker had about 70 catches with Joey Harrington as his QB, so he did alright without Tom Brady.

If Eli wins another Superbowl this year with the Giants, does that push him into the conversation?

I know his stats aren't as gaudy as either Peyton or Brady's but he's a steady performer. Eli has no great statistical seasons, yet. But he's still relatively young -- just an idea.

Is the Manning vs Brady debate pro football's version of the Ted Williams vs Joe DiMaggio debate?

That's a very good comparison. I'm not sure which is which, though.

Manning is Williams with all the awesome offensive records and Brady is DiMaggio with all the SB titles. Manning may break many many all-time passing records. Brady does hole a few records of his own so it's not quite a perfect comparison. If you thing about it when one thinks of Ted Williams one usually thinks of his hitting stats. When one thinks of Joe DiMaggio do stats ever come to mind (other than his 56 game hitting streak)?

The thing is, Williams is clearly superior to DiMaggio, and Brady to Manning (at least IMO). And DiMaggio's best season didn't even approach Williams' best.

Are we talking "value" or "greatness"? Just hitting or all-around game? Almost all the contemporary accounts point to Dimaggio being the "greater" player. Even Williams said DiMaggio was the greater player. And if it were not for an eye infection Dimaggio probably would have hit over .400 in 1939. The Brady/Manning comparison is just as muddled.
