After being written off as a draft bust by almost everyone Thomas Jones has rushed for 2,283 yards and 16 touchdowns in his two seasons in Chicago. He's also dangerous as a pass receiver -- with 82 catches for 570 yards in that same time span.
Jones accomplished all of this after being the 7th overall pick in the 2000 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals and suffering through injuries, several years of failure and three franchise changes. Jones just turned 28 four days ago and he only has 1,053 carries in his career so his legs should be fresh -- despite the injuries.
That didn't stop the Chicago Bears from drafting Cedric Benson with the 4th overall pick in the 2005. Benson has been injured in the pre-season. He has a lot to work on. He's not an extraordinary blocker. His hands aren't very good -- one reception last year. But he is a power rusher who can run between the tackles and the Bears have a lot of money invested in him. Benson rushed for 272 yards for an average of 4.1 yards per carry last season.
My question is when will Benson replace Jones on the depth chart and become the starting running back for the Chicago Bears?
