One of or the most infamous play in football. The Flying Wedge was a formation used in the late 1800's and early 1900's made by Lorin F. Deland. It was first used in 1892 in a game Harvard and Yale. It was extremley effective. But it injured many people. In 1894 a newspaper reported seven players in dying condition because of the play. The sport was very dangerous at this time. It was finaly banned in 1905 when 18 fatalities that year occured. So my question is what made the play so deadly and so effective? Does anyone have any more info on the play also?
