Nine-year-veteran Rosevelt Colvin got axed by the Patriots today. A standout in Chicago, he never did live up to the hype in New England. At "only" 30-years-old Colvin was one of the Patriots' younger line backers.
This solidifies, I think, the organization's need to take a LB in the draft.

Whoa. That came pretty much out of the blue. Colvin looked like the one guy they wouldn't cut, except for Thomas. Keith Rivers at #7 anybody?

Salary Cap move. He will be back for less of a hit.

Not exactly what? It was a salary cap move. It was nothing more. He went with more money elsewhere than what the Patriots could afford to give him.

Not exactly back. It was clearly a cap move, the LB corps was thin enough without letting him go needlessly, but he's not coming back.

Needlessly? The money that they would have spent on him had he been retained went to fill out the rest of the roster at positions that they need help in even more- the secondary.
They played chicken with him and he "won", but he is not going to be on a team that is a lock for the playoffs let alone the odds on favorite for the Super Bowl...so he is the loser there.
