BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Todd Pinkston's preseason debut has been put on hold.

Pinkston, who missed all of last season after tearing his right Achilles' tendon in training camp, will not play when the Philadelphia Eagles visit the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

The wide receiver said earlier in the week he felt close to 100 percent and was planning to see his first game action, but coach Andy Reid doesn't think Pinkston is ready.

"I just don't think he's far enough along," Reid said Wednesday.

Reid said Pinkston didn't make much progress in practice this week.

"I was hoping to see more and I didn't see it, so we're just going to back off here and see what happens," Reid said.

Pinkston became a starter in his second season in 2001 and averaged 44 catches, 659 yards and 3.5 TDs per year between 2001-04. Undrafted rookie Hank Baskett, who was acquired in a trade with Minnesota, has filled in for Pinkston in the starting lineup beside second-year pro Reggie Brown.

Pinkston's roster spot could be in jeopardy if he doesn't get on the field soon. Brown and Baskett will fill two of the five wideout spots. Rookie Jason Avant and veterans Jabar Gaffney, Darnerien McCants and Greg Lewis are competing for the final three.

I don't see him coming back and being overly successful, given the nature of his injury and the fact that we have a group of receivers that can all be utilised as much (if not more) than Todd.
