Koren Robinson, Minnesota Vikings Wide Receiver and 2005 Pro Bowl selection, was arrested last night on DWI and numerous other charges. Robinson lit up a radar gun and then refused to stop for police officers, taking them on a high speed 10-mile chase before giving up. After police got Robinson out of the car, he began to cooperate and took a field sobriety test -- which he allegedly failed.

He now faces another DWI charge and the much more serious felony charge of attempting to flee from police.

The 26-year-old wide receiver from North Carolina State put up huge numbers for the Seattle Seahawks in 2002 -- 78 Rec, 1,240 Yds, 15.9 Avg, 5 TD. But after that season his numbers declined and his problems increased.

After several alcohol related problems, the Seahawks released Robinson last year. He then spent 28 days in an alcohol treatment facility. And got picked up in training camp by the Vikings. He started out on special teams and really made his mark -- earning a trip to the 2005 Pro Bowl. His comeback seemed complete and it appeared as if he was poised for another breakout season in 2006.

This July Robinson voluntarily checked himself into a rehab center for further treatment. And last night he royally messed up his life again. No word yet on what the Vikings will do with Robinson. In March they signed him to a three year contract with $5.5 million in guaranteed money. Of course they can get out of that if the NFL suspends him for violating the drug policy or if the team wants to try to void the contract on grounds of an "ethics violation". But it would be nice to see somebody stand by this guy and try to help him, unlike Seattle that just dumped him like so much garbage.

For all his talent, this guy just can't seem to beat the bottle. Now he faces serious jail time and an uncertain NFL future. It's tragic.

Another athlete that's above the law.

See Clarett.

You think he'll get off this time? I think he's headed for some serious jail time.

It is tragic to see a guy with so much talent throw it away. Like Packer Backer said Maurice Clarett or Baseballs Josh Hamilton. And theres been countless other times where a player has so much potential and just lets it go because of alcohol or drugs. Its a shame to see people waste their god given gifts like that.

Well are the charges are official now, including the felony. Minnesota is already in talks with the league to void Robinson's contract. I hope he saved some money to pay for lawyers.

He was reportedly doing 100+ mph when he lit up the police radar and started the chase. You kind of have to wonder if there aren't some real psychological issues at play here -- besides the alcoholism.

Often times single car accidents with only one occupant in the car are suicide attempts. Robinson didn't have time to crash. But drunk and doing a 100+ mph, you have to figure it wouldn't have been long until he did.

This guy probably needs a psych eval like Clarett. Not that it's going to do him any good -- besides maybe some theraphy he'll get in prison.
