SAN FRANCISCO -- Dana Stubblefield, a four-time All-Pro lineman who played 11 seasons in the NFL, pleaded guilty Friday to one count of lying to federal agents when he denied using performance-enhancing drugs as part of the ongoing BALCO steroids saga.

His sentencing is scheduled for April 25. The maximum sentence is five years in prison, but, based on sentencing guidelines and other cases, Stubblefield is likely to receive anywhere from no jail time to six months.

So that is a blurb on the back page of the sports/news sites.... Why is that?

Dana was a GREAT player whom lied to the authorities, but yet there really isn't much talk about this at all....

With all the 'roid talk, I would have expected more of an uproar on this one as well...

Almost as if it doesn't matter because Dana played football...

That is a major story, but I don't think many people know who Stubblefield is despite him being a former All-Pro.

He was the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year in 1997 -- but 11 years is a long time for the casual fan to remember.

Slowly the NFL and NBA are going to get more scrutiny about PEDs. It's happening. My question is what's going to happen when someone makes allegations against someone like Peyton Manning, Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan? Do they get destroyed the way Clemens has been?

All it'll take is one trainer that wants to get famous and rich(er).
