So what I'm seeing is that the search for Brian Billick's replacement has essentially boiled down to the following six candidates:

Jason Garrett, Cowboys OC
Jim Caldwell, Colts QB coach
Bill Cowher, retired
Rex Ryan, Ravens DC
Tony Sparano, Cowboys assistant HC
Rob Chudzinski, Browns OC

Somebody else may enter the field, but as of right now, these are the only ones who the Ravens will interview, plus Cowher, who may come out of retirement. Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and University of Iowa HC Kirk Ferentz have declined requests for interviews already.

The question I am posing is twofold: Who would be the best fit for the Ravens, and who will they end up signing?

I sincerely hope that they don't end up signing Cowher. His style is very similar to Billick's, and we've already seen that that won't work.

I believe Bill Cowher when he says he's not ready to come back yet. We'll see him again, but after 2009.

Jason Garrett is next in line for the thrown in Dallas and you'd have to be a mad man to give that up.

Tony Sparano is headed to Miami to work with the Big Tuna.

Baltimore's defense disintegrated this year under Rex Ryan. They gave up almost 400 points.

Jim Caldwell would seem a logical choice, especially if the Ravens are going after Brohm, Ryan or Woodson in the draft.

But I'd want someone with experience. Does Jim Fassell seem too crazy? Jim Mora Jr.?

The defense's collapse wasn't really Ryan's fault. The top three corners went down, Adalius Thomas left, Ray Lewis missed significant time, Trevor Pryce was gone most of the year, and even Ed Reed missed a couple games. And the offense kept them on the field too much.

Last night on ESPN radio they were throwing Mike Singeltary's name in the mix.

Build your team on defense only and that's what happens...

They need an offense oriented coach, no more defense oriented game plans. They need someone who can build their QB of the future that they have to take in the draft- no more Boller, no more quick fix vets, no more reliance on Stover's leg(guy's lucky he hasn't broken or torn anything!). Offense is their way back to the top.

Garrett should be the guy they get. If not him then how about Chris Palmer or Tom Coughlin(if he's fired next monday)?

Well, whoever voted for "other" was right. They hired Eagles secondary coach John Harbaugh in a somewhat surprising decision.

His name popped up in discussions but for other teams so it's not much of a surprise

Let's see, right on Cowher, Garrett, Sparano and Rex Ryan. Jim Caldwell would have been a great pick had the Colts not crowned him head coach in waiting. Fassell sounded so crazy he's going to be Washington's next head coach. Jim Mora Jr. is so crazy that he's next in line for the Seattle job after Holmgren's contract expires at the end of 2008.
