Will we see him this season? If so, will he do well?

I say Dillon is too fragile; he won't start every game. We'll see Maroney, but only as a backup to Faulk, and he'll be adequate, but not great.

Note: First post ever in Pats forum!

I think Maroney will surprise you. He is a very tough runner to tackle, and has some speed to go along with it. Faulk is more or less a WR out of the backfield that gets a carry every once in awhile to attempt to keep defenses honest. Maroney will see some action this year spelling Dillon. As I stated in a thread elsewhere, if I was Dillon, I would be looking over my shoulder.

Good point. I think that Faulk is currently the backup, and Maroney is the 3rd string, but Maroney could well see some playing time, even some starts.

Maroney was a lot of fun to watch at Minnesota. Very talented runner but he's not that big so I'm not sure he will be that effective in the cold games of December when you need a powerful runner.

Dillon is healthy, as far as I'm aware. I see him rushing for 1,250 to 1,500 yards this season. Maroney probably is the third down back and gaines around 300 to 400 yards and scores a half a dozen touchdowns.

I think Dillon has at least another year after this year as the primary running back but it was clear that Maroney was drafted with the intent that Dillon's days were numbered.

I think Faulk is the one who needs to look over his shoulder- if Maroney has a well enough preseason I doubt Faulk will be anything more than a glorified kick returner...

Faulk could always stick around even after the Dillon years are over as a Larry Centers type "RB". IMO he's never been anything more than that.

He's versatile, and it's better to have insurance.

At the very least he will mentor the rookie, that's something Dillon can't do playing all the time.

Game 1 vs. the Bills he has more yards than Dillon on just about same number of carries with an equal number of great runs.

He is making rookie mistakes but for his first regular season game in the NFL he has done well. He shows signs of greatness, just needs more experience.

Maroney scored his first NFL TD today. The kid is looking pretty good.
