Lee Suggs the extremely talented running back who has been opening eyes and then disappointing eager fans since his days at Virginia Tech has been traded from the Cleveland Browns to the New York Jets.
With Curtis Martin on the PUP list, and his career likely over, and the other running backs on the Jets' depth chart being Cedric Houston and Derrick Blaylock it was clear to anyone with an IQ higher than their shoe size that something needed to be done and fast to address the Jets' lack of talent at running back.
Career Numbers:
2003 CLE 07 G, 056 ATT 289 YDS, 5.2 AVG, 2 TD, 2 FUM, 1 Lost
2004 CLE 10 G, 199 ATT, 744 YDS, 3.7 AVG, 2 TD, 6 FUM, 3 Lost
2005 CLE 08 G, 008 ATT, 15 YDS, 1.9 AVG, 0 TD, 0 FUM, 0 Lost
As you can see Suggs got almost no use at all last season. At various times in his career he has been sidelined by injuries to his shoulder, neck, toe, ankle and thumb. The Jets gave up 25-year-old cornerback Derrick Strait, a third year pro out of Oklahoma to acquire Suggs.
But is Lee Suggs the answer? Will Suggs finally live up to his potential?

I've seen Suggs play at Tech and he and Kevin Jones were awesome together!! If he gets the carries he'll have a 1,000 yard season.

Suggs has shown flashes of brilliance over his college and short pro career, but he is not durable enough to be the answer the Jets are looking for. Suggs will amaze some with some of his runs, and may even have a couple really good games. But, until he proves that he can stay healthy and on the field, he won't be considered as the man.

Well Suggs failed his physical today and is going back to Cleveland.

Lol, Suggs is even more broken down than I thought. Its pretty bad when you can't even be traded due to failing a teams physical. It looks like the Jets are now back to trying to find a servicable RB from somewhere.. Blaylock is OK, but I don't really expect him to be a full load carrying RB.

Too bad!! Blaylock had 539 yards with Kansas City in 2004. I think he can be an 800 yard rusher with the Jets.

Blaylock can be solid, he and Suggs would have been pretty good working together.

Well I don't know who the Jets are going to get now, unless the Browns substitute William Green for Suggs and the Jets accept.
Thomas Jones is definitely off the market. Lovie is Smith is taking no chances, especially now that Cedric Benson, the supposed heir-apparent, is banged up.
LenDale White sat out the Titans last preseason game for spitting on a defensive player in practice last week. Suddenly I don't think Chris Brown is going anywhere.
Who else is out there?
In 2004 when Blaylock gained 539 yards for the Chiefs he did that on only 118 carries -- 4.6 AVG. And he scored 8 touchdowns that year. Blaylock could have just as easily stepped in to the Chiefs' old system, Al Saunder's offensive system, and put up huge numbers, like Larry Johnson and Priest Holmes did.
Now of course Blaylock was running behind the best offensive line in all of football in 2004 and of course he was playing in offensive genius' Al Saunder's system when he put up those numbers. But he still had to physically make the plays. The Jets line should be much improved with the additions of Ferguson and Mangold in the draft but nobody is exactly accusing Eric Mangini or anyone on his staff of being an offensive genius just yet.
Long being short, I think Blaylock might be able to do the job. Not sure how that correlates my shoe-size to my IQ.

I know T.J. Duckett was on the market for a second, but I don't know if he's still available.

I'd like to see Turner (LT's back up) land a starting job- he's worthy. One more guy that I'd like to see traded while he has SOME value is Ahman Green.

Michael Turner isn't going anywhere. Darren Sproles -- the former Kansas State star -- got seriously injured in Saturday's preseason game. He broke his left fibula and had it surgically repaired Monday. He's out for at least the year. His career might be over.
Besides being 3rd on the RB depth chart, Sproles also returned kicks. Last year he averaged 24.3 yards on 63 kickoff returns. This guy had huge talent and potential. I hope he gets better and can play in the NFL again. But Michael Turner is staying in San Diego now.

Glad to see him back in Cleveland. In '03 saw him in Cincinnati end the Bengals' playoff hopes with a late game TD run down the right sideline in a 22-14 win. Browns need a good powerful runner.

With Suggs failing the physical, I wonder what the Browns will do with him.
Sad to hear about Sproles. I remember watching the Big 12 championship game a couple of years ago between K-State and OU and hearing the announcers annoint him as the next Barry Sanders. He did have the speed, that's for sure.

Man, Sproles was a little rat a KSU, he was all over the field! Someone talked about Ahman Green being expendable, what about his backup Samkon Gado?

Who is starting in Green Bay: Najeh Davenport, Ahman Green, Samkon Gado?
Because I thought Green was going to be the starter again.

Because I thought Green was going to be the starter again.
Right now, Green is slated to start. Since he's coming off that injury, it goes without saying that he'll ever be the same again. Expect to see Gado taking over the starting duty by week 4 or 5. Danveport is also a good runner, and he'll be in the mix. Herron will slowly make his way up the chart as well.
Here's my prediction on how the first few games will breakdown... Carry-wise:
Green 50%
Gado 30%
Davenport 15%
Herron 5%
Look for Henderson to more receptions than carries.
Right now, Green is slated to start. Since he's coming off that injury, it goes without saying that he'll ever be the same again.
He wasn't playing that well last year prior to the injury. It would be a wise move to give Gado more carries next year and make him your number one back.
