Losman Quotes Post Game!!

First game action in a while, how did it feel?
"We started off a little rusty especially bringing in a new offense, new coaches, new players… everything was new. It was little slow start, but we were able to pick things up in the second half."

Despite slow start do you feel as game went on you got more comfortable?
"I've always said that the more I play and the more I'm in there then the more comfortable I get. The more comfortable I get the better it is for our team. That's how it went as the game went on I got more comfortable making the throws. But being in this offense for the first time it takes time. It takes trust and that's what our coaches always stress. Trust, trust, trust. We just have to trust the system. Everything was open. There were a couple of good throws and a couple of bad throws, but I'm excited."

Two minute drill end of first half and in the shotgun, feel more comfortable in shotgun?
"Yeah you get to spread things out and that's what I did in high school and college. So I'm always going to be more comfortable in the gun, but I've got to get the complete game going. I have to perform in all formations. But in the two minute is the time when you have to study the most because it's important."

Anxious to make a play at times instead of throwing it away?
"Sometimes you're trying to make a play that's extra special. But sometimes you've got to lay it down because it's not there. There were good plays and bad plays, but we're moving forward from here. We've got game number two next week so we'll see how it goes."

Compared to last year did you feel different?
"I felt more comfortable. I wasn't get caught up in the moment. I'm not paying attention to fireworks or staring at guys on the other sideline that you watched when you were little. I'm just more comfortable. I'm just out there to play and you focus more on your job. This is my job at hand right in front of me and I'm only focusing on what I have to do on my next play. That's all you should be focused on."

Glad you got more time than maybe you anticipated?
"I didn't expect to play that much, but you never know how it's going to shake out. I didn't think I was going to play in the first half, but when you're number is called you have to be ready. Fortunately we were able to get things going a little in the second half."

How much does being able to focus make you a better QB on the field?
"Being able to relax means everything. All it takes is confidence and what brings confidence is the way you prepare. But I'm comfortable with my surroundings. It's coming along and I'm feeling more comfortable out there. We'll see how it goes."

Dick Jauron Quotes Post Game!!

Injury update
"Tim Anderson had an AC sprain (shoulder). Our medical staff doesn't think it's overly serious. Matt Bowen had a leg-nerve contusion. It's the same kind of thing, they don't think it's a long term injury. Jon Goldsberry had a high-ankle sprain and that can run on for a while. Roscoe Parrish had a minor groin strain so we decided to keep him out in the second half."

"Obviously it was a sloppy start for us. The beginning of the game wasn't anything like we wanted to happen, not unlike a lot of exhibitions. We were careless with the ball and when you give up a defensive touchdown it's never a positive thing. Call it a good lesson for our team though because it's what we talk to them about. You can't turn it over offensively and if you turn it over defensively good things happen."

"We punted the ball well, but we had a punt blocked. That's definitely not what you'd ever like to see happen."

"We played a lot of people so we accomplished that and we saw a lot of things. We'll move ahead from there, we'll go forward."

Kelly only 12 snaps, pulled earlier?
"We thought we would get him into the second quarter. So it was about where we thought, it was maybe slightly earlier, but the game kind of went that way and the quarter broke and it was time to bring J.P. in. Kelly had a rough night obviously and we'll have to look at a tape of the entire game and move forward."

Being safe with the ball, how bothered by INT
"You're always bothered particularly when it turns into a touchdown. The defense has no chance to make a stop or make them kick a field goal. It's not what you want. You can't win in the National Football League unless you are consistent and you're making the right decisions consistently at any position. But at quarterback it's compounded all the time. He had a tough start."

J.P. squeezing the ball
"We'd like to see him more consistently accurate obviously. And there were a few balls that were short early. He threw some very nice balls, some strong balls. And clearly he's got mobility so he did some good things and he did some bad things too."

How do you evaluate J.P.'s performance in light of the fact that he went against the second string defense?
"You don't weigh it a lot. You weigh his decision making because the only thing you have to go on is what he did. You can't take it away because of who it was against. They're all professionals and their second team has got to be pretty good. This is a team that was in the NFC Championship a year ago. They didn't go because they're not a deep team. You've got to have depth in this business. We'll look at how he performed, how he made his reads and the progressions and the accuracy of his throws."

J.P.'s decision making from naked eye?
"I would say some good and some bad. Of course I have more inside information because I'm listening to all the calls. I'm listening to the response, I'm listening to the coaching points that are going on off the field. He did some good things and he made some decisions with the ball that I'm sure he'd love to have back."

Kyle Williams
"He's a consistent football player. He's one of those players that doesn't look a lot different than he did in college. Sometimes you're fearful that a player is pretty good in college, but that step up in talent leaves him behind. He doesn't look like he's that kind of guy at all. He looks like he's very comfortable here and he looks very confident and he steps right in and plays. He's very smart."

Defensively
"Defensively the first series was very disappointing. It certainly happens in the regular season. It happens to great teams, but we felt pretty good coming in. We felt confident. Maybe our players were anticipating the beginning of this defense too much. Maybe they were trying too hard, I don't know. The first series was not a good one against a good offensive football team. When they settled down they did a nice job."

Big cushion by McGee and Clements to receivers, and then adjusted after?
"We mixed it up and a lot of it is a guessing game. They can guess right. Defensively you can feel like you're a call behind sometimes. And then eventually it evens out and you catch up and if it doesn't the game gets out of hand pretty fast. So you have to do some things. Offenses are good and they throw off your look. So we've got to get smarter and disguise more."

Some execution problems was it their defense or was it because it was first game?
"Combination of both. We certainly didn't execute very well and they're very good on defense. It was nice to see our group come back, play hard and make some plays. All in all it was the first exhibition game. We certainly would have liked to do a whole lot better, particularly early. We'll go correct them. We've got a lot of tape that we can coach off of now with a lot of guys and that's good."
