Clinton Portis was injured in tonight's game and had to leave early with a seperated shoulder. X-Rays were negative but he could still miss time. This could be very bad for the Redskins.
By the way, George Bush and Abe Lincoln are having a great light saber fight on Robot Chicken.
Any idea how long Portis will be out and if the Redskins have anyone capable of replacing him?

Kerry Carter, who is Canadian, is also out. He was injured in the same game (much more grotesquely, however) as Portis and is done for the season. This might open up room for Jesse Lumsden, who is also Canadian (Coincidence? Hmm...) to fill in.
On the Portis front, he may or may not be ready for the opener on Sept. 11th.
ASHBURN, Va. -- Washington running back Clinton Portis is out for the remainder of the pre-season and his status for the Redskins' opener was uncertain yesterday, one day after he partially dislocated his shoulder in an exhibition game.
Portis flew to Alabama for another MRI on the left shoulder, which he injured while tackling corner back Keiwan Ratliff following an interception in the first quarter of Sunday's 19-3 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
For Portis, the only good news was that he won't play again this pre-season.
"I don't know why myself or any other player of my calibre should be playing in the pre-season," he said. "I think for the past four years I've done enough to show the world I'm going to be ready."

As long as he's ready for the regular season. Anybody else think there are too many pre-season games?
Whenever I draft in fantasy football I always set it up between the end of the exhibition season and the start of the regular season -- otherwise your chances of getting boned on at least one, maybe two or three picks is high.
With year-round conditioning programs, mandatory mini camps spread through the year and six weeks of training camp, why do we need four or five exhibition games before the regular season? All they do is get players hurt or worn down in games that mean nothing.
If Portis is seriously injured or had he been seriously injured the Redskins could have been transformed from a likely 13 win division champ and Superbowl contender to a 7-9 team in one play.

It was a stupid play too. Not only did the game not count but he put an unnecessarily vicious headbutt style hit on the Bengal DB.

I wonder how all other players feel about these games (we know how Portis feels). It definitly is bad when a player gets hurt for the entire season.
