On Monday Junior Seau will sign a one-day contract with the San Diego Chargers and retire -- ending a stellar 17 year career in which Seau was selected for the Pro-Bowl 12 times.

Seau retires with 1,666 tackles, 52 sacks, 15 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles in 230 games played. But his numbers don't begin to tell the story that was Seau.

Having spent a decent portion of my life in San Diego, I have memories that fans around the country might not have shared. Seau was like the second coming in the form a of a linebacker. On a lot of awful Chargers' teams, Seau was the only player on the field worth cheering about. And he regularly made astonishing plays. He was a game-changing, dominant defender.

This seems like a crazy question to me, but do you think Seau deserves induction into the Hall of Fame?

Has little to do with the HOF, but I'd like if I can to tell you my personnal favorite Junior Seau moment. Use to see a lot of him when he was a Charger. And during a Broncos-Chargers game on sunday night football, couple of years back, the Broncos ran with the ball to the side, and the play was stopped at the line of scrimmage. And the insufferable Paul Maguire went nuts, as he sometimes does. "What an amazing play by Junior Seau. He's the one who completely disrupted (Sp?) the play. I hope we have a replay of that..." and he kept on going on how dominant Seau was and so on. And thankfully, there was a camera isolated on him. I wanted to see what he had done that was so remarkable. And we saw him before the snap, doing his usual routine of jumping around, yelling, pointing and stuff. The ball gets snapped, he blitzed thru the middle of line, but before he could do anything, he got knocked flat on his back by Broncos center Tom Nalen. Let's say it kind of interrupted Maguire's tirade. And on the following play, the camera was on Seau again, and again he tried to blitz in the middle, and again he was sent flying by Nalen. I really got a good laugh out of that one.

Lesson is, the fact a star player is on the field doesent necessarily means he did something good on a given play. Make sure he did before telling your nationwide audience how brilliant he was. You might look downright foolish.

Without a doubt, a definate HOFer. Having seen that bastadge terrorize my Raiders twice a year for so many years, I can attest to his greatness. One of the happiest days I can remember is when Seau signed with Miami, and out of our division.

Unquestionably a HOF'er. On a short list of top post-merger linebackers. Very likely first ballot, too.

According to ESPN: "Junior Seau may not be retiring after all. According to a report in the San Diego Union-Tribune, two league sources confirmed that Seau will meet with the New England Patriots this week and could sign a deal with the team.

"The Patriots have suffered losses at the linebacker position because of injuries and free agency. Middle linebacker is particularly thin, as starter Tedy Bruschi and backups Monty Beisel and Freddie Roach are all fighting injuries."

Some guys just can't give up the game. I think he can come back and contribute with the Pats.

He doesn't have a Superbowl Ring -- the Patriots at least give him one last legit chance at obtaining one. The Pats need a middle linebacker and Seau still might want to play. It probably won't do any harm -- except to his legacy.

He played great on teams that were mediocre to poor for most of his career.

If not for bad players around him there would be no question about it- he deserves to be a Hall of Famer.
