View Full Version : Will Brady break Manning's TD record?

Will Tom Brady break Peyton Manning's NFL record for most-TD passes (49) in a season?
It wasn't until the Dallas and Miami games that I thought he actually could. Brady currently has 30 TD passes. With 8 games left, he only needs 20 more to break the record. If he continues to throw at least
3 TD/game he break the record. I think he'll break it and I hope he does. :highfive:
This thread will be updated throughout the season.

Besides my homerism, I think he actually will.

Ditto from me. He needs 20 over eight games, three of which are against the Dolphins, Jets, and Bills. He could easily have 12 in those, which leaves 8 over 6, which is definitely doable, especially when considering that he'll face a Ravens defense that may be missing their top corner (McAlister), their top pass-rushing DE (Pryce), and has their best coverage LB from last year on the other side (Thomas).

Considering they play the Bills, Jets, and Dolphins a second time and they won't make the same mistakes twice(if they can avoid it...) I don't believe he will break it, especially since hte last few games he will most likely be taking it easy and giving the backups a chance to play.

I don't think the Dolphins can avoid anything right now. Also, if the Patriots are still undefeated and Brady has a shot at Manning's record in, say, Week 15, what will Belichick do? Have him build up a lead, then put Cassel or Gutierrez in? Leave him in the whole game and risk injury? Or just rest him for the playoffs?

If it's like he has done in the past he will play him for the game and keep him in throughout, but if they are in another blowout situation the backups are playing.
Brady and Belichick could care less about the record, all they care about is 1. a playoff berth 2. the division title 3. a first round bye 4. a Super Bowl.

I think if it happens, it happens and Brady/Belichick would not go out of their way just to set a personal record. I think their team goals outweigh individual goals anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.
I hope he breaks it but if he doesn't I hope he's not 1 or 2 TD shy of at least tying it. :crossfingers:

That was really surprising to me when I checked the stats after the game, if he can do it against the Colts maybe he can actually break it!!!!!

Five TDs tonight against the Bills leaving him only 11 shy of the record with six games to play...at his rate he could break the record with a week to go.

One more tonight leaving him just 10 shy of the record...just 2 per game and he has it, considering they face Miami and New York again it looks pretty much inevitable...

With Brady only throwing 1 TD tonight, that's the lowest he's thrown all year. He has thrown at least 3 TDs in every game.
39 TD for the year, 10 to tie, 11 to break it. Hopefully its just a matter of time...

Brady had 2 TDs vs the Ravens tonight. That puts him at 41 for the year so far.
4 games left...

4 more tonight leaving him with 45 on the season...only 5 more TDs needed in three games two of which are against teams that the Patriots manhandled earlier in the year...

Another great day for Brady. Today against the Steelers, he finished 32-46, 399 yds, 4 TDs and 0 INT.
Besides breaking the 49 TDs record, another record Brady should hold is TD/INT record. In 2004, Manning had a 49 TD/10 INT, which put him at a +39. Brady now sits at 45 TD/5 INT for a + 40.

Unless he gets injured, Brady will break the record. I think Moss will break Rice's record also( see other thread).
Heck, Brady could tie the record this week...and in the second quarter:laughing:

Yesterday against the Jets, Brady went 14-27 for 140 yds, 0 TD and 1 INT. It was the 1st time this season that Brady didn't throw a TD. Still holding at 45 TDs, he needs to have at least 2 TDs next week vs Miami (3 would be better) to have a decent shot at breaking the record against the Giants the following week.

Brady really need 3 TDs today to have a good shot at breaking the record.
He's in a great position to break it next Saturday @ the NY Giants. :crossfingers:

I beg to differ, I thought he needed only two today to get the shot especially since the Giants were playing for nothing next week and they aren't as good at home as they are on the road...

I'm not surprised. :D
Brady would certainly have a shot at the record if he would have thrown 2 TDs today. It just puts him in a much comfortable position, not that he needs to be, to break it next weekend. Either way, over the last 2 games I was guessing he would need at least 2 TDs in one game and 3 TDs in the other to get it done. I'm glad he threw 3 today, one never knows what might happen.

I figured he would wind up getting the two against the Dolphins, pretty much the only reasoning being that they played against him already so they knew what to expect...and he made them pay with some bombs to Moss that they already saw and then mixing things up and taking by surprise with his throws to Gafney and Welker.
The great news though is that if he throws only one he still has a share of the record, if he throws two he owns the record- a win/win for him regardless!

You beat me to it!!!! :applaud:
Both scores were go-ahead scores for the Patriots so they weren't meaningless TDs.

Thinking back after the game it would have been some good trivia knowing that Vrabel, who of course wears #50, catches Brady's 50th TD.
