As long as he's ready for the opener, I don't really care that he missed three weeks. Just good to have him back.

He actually said that he missed the two-a-days practices. Maybe after his physical he should have his head examined.

He's only back because it does him no good to miss a bunch of games when he hits the free agent market next year

And how do you know they won't come to an agreement on a multi-year deal? Or that he gets franchised again!! Any way you look at it, he's in camp and getting ready to play.

They can't resign him to a multi-year deal until after the season is done. Given that he's not really in the top 5 among cornerbacks and would be entitled a 20% pay raise next year making him the top paid man at his position the team won't tag him next year.
He won't be back, the team knows that he will want a big increase in salary and the team won't give that much up. He's realy just playing for his next contract with some other team and the team is getting their moneys worth out of him while they can...they will replace him in the draft like they always do.

Yes, you're right about him not being able to sign during the season. They can still come to an agreement which he can sign before next season starts. Most players I understand moving on (Law, Milloy) but Samuel is still very young.

He may be young but his price is inflated for what he produces...they could probably go out and sign a veteran of the same talent level for less than what it costs to sign him to a big deal...or go for a CB in the draft again like they have been fond of doing for departing players over the years.

Hometeam bias and being a media darling cloud how good/bad the players really are...if/when he flounders with another team we will know why they didn't pony up the cash to keep him.

I'm not to sure about that ATL, depending on what you meant. The Patriots won't give him Nate Clements-esque money. And Asante will not be back in New England next year becaue of stipulations in his contract about playing time and wins, disallowing the franchise tag being placed on him again.
But a team in need of a cover corner might be willing to give up that kind of cash, especially with the increased salary cap and the free spending of owners like Daniel Snyder.
What do you think a Redskins secondary of CBs Asante Samuel, Shawn Springs and SFs LaRon Landry, Sean Taylor -- with Fred Smoot or Carlos Rogers as the nickle back -- scary. Seems like something Snyder would try.

I meant he realized he won't get money like Nate Clements from the Pats. I can see the Skins picking up Samuel, they money around like it's nothing.

They have nothing to show for all that spending...

That's definitely true about the Skins and I don't want to hijack the thread or anything but that Champ Bailey for Clinton Portis trade a few years back might go down as one of the deals trades ever.
CB>RB!
Personally I think the Patriots should consider giving Asante close to what he wants. No he's not as good a player as he played last year. But if a team wants to shut down Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne from the Colts -- they better have some quality CBs.

He hasn't shut them down though, if he did then New England would have won last year instead of the Colts...
