Last year West Virginia went 11 - 1 including a victory over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. They sort of snuck up on teams last year. This year most pre- season polls have them ranked around #5 in the nation. They could go through their Big East Schedule undefeated, but their games against Pittsburgh and Louisville are anything but sure things. They also have a tough game againsy Maryland on September 14. I went to their game against USF last year and came away very impressed. This year teams will have them circled on their schedule.

I think they were ranked around the same place preseason last year. I figured they would possibly win it all before last year and they certainly snuck up on me. I forgot they were so good. Could see them doing very well this year.

As long as they don't start believing their press clippings. They do look like a real national contender this year.

I've been taking a lot of heat on a myspace college football group I sometimes post on for picking West Virginia to finish third in the Big East and losing to Pittsburgh, and Maryland in addition to Louisville.
This team reminds me on 2004's West Virginia team, except the players are much more inexperienced than that team was. The QB, RB, and Chris Henry were all seniors (well Kay-Jay Harris, the RB was a 5th year junior but same thing), and they had Pac Man Jones running the secondary yet they could only manage a 4 way tie for first in the Big East, and that was before Louisville.
West Virginia comes across to me as one of those teams that is good at sneaking up on people, but when they have expectations they struggle. Virginia Tech has been a good example of that over the years too. Plus their too one-dimensional on offense, they don't have a Chris Henry this year.

I'd agree that WVA will lose to Louisville. The Cards could be a real sleeper.
Chris Henry has certainly proven to be a prime example of the value of a college education

Somewhere they left student, out of student-athlete.
