For 12 years, fullback Cory Schlesinger pounded holes for Detroit running backs, all the while being the consummate team player. Career winding down, Schlesinger found himself being phased out of the Lion offense, especially with the new spread-offense formation used by current offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Therefore, he had no other choice (besides retirement) to look for a place where his services would be better utilized. That new location is Miami, where Cory signed a two-year deal to bust holes for the Dolphins.

Cory helped Hall of Famer Barry Sanders have some of his best seasons, as well as helped develop current star Kevin Jones. He was well-known around the league for being one of the toughest blockers, breaking numerous face-masks each season. So long, Cory, and thanks for the hard work. Lion forever.

I'll always remember him on the Lions, big #30 with the neck roll. It sounds funny, but if a player wears a neck roll they always seem like a hard nose blocker to me.

I'm sure he would have broke his neck quite a few times had it not been for that roll. He was (and still is) a beast. Miami will love him.

His leaving is really sad to me, like when we let Chris Spielman walk away. It will be weird to see him in a different jersey.
